Re: Rating Coach Scott

The problem I have with Scott is his need to prove a point over mistakes or play he finds unacceptable such as last night with Waiters. For Waiters no have no clue why he was benched after the game is terrible. Pulling the rookie aside to talk about what was bothering Scott would be the way to go but instead he doesn't leave his perch near the scorers table. Waiters did take some questionable shots but how does that differ from his performance against the Clippers other than they didn't all go in the basket.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

A head coach doesn't *have* to explain his decisions to anyone but his boss.

True, but generally the only way a player will learn from mistakes is if they know what the mistakes were.

And obviously Scott talked with Waiters about it after the game (at least I hope), but telling him during the game certainly wouldn't hurt.

Maybe the message was that he's the head coach, and he doesn't have to explain himself every time he decides to try something different on the floor. ;)

Ha he definitely doesn't HAVE to explain his decisions but for Waiters to tell the media he had no clue why he was benched makes it look pretty bad on the part of Scott

Didn't you ever have a coach who asked you to do something (or not do something) and didn't give you a reason?

They do it all the time at every level for their sundry nefarious coaching reasons.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

I put as good as expected. All i really want him to do is grow the young guards which he has done well. I like a short leashe guy, especially after the circus that fed lebrons ego. His rotations are not always the most conducive to winning, but his platoon system gives the bench a chance to play and prevents us from winning too many games. This rebuild is a Chris Grant rebuild, its deliberate and thorough and we know less than half of what hes trying to do.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

I don't know maybe he should be fired and they should bring Mr. Potato Head back... LOL Not sure I like this string, I am not sure if he is a good coach or not, we have a shitty team and a shitty record. You really can't expext him to win against the quality teams in the NBA with this team, quite frankly not sure we should expect him to win against the bad teams. We have a Point Guard and half of a 2 guard. We have a PF playing center, the rest of the team is marginal at best.

Don't talk to Cavaliers coach Byron Scott about new-age statistics.

Many NBA teams are sinking millions of dollars into statistical analysis, which break down the game in many ways. Scott doesn't always adhere to those principles.

"I'm still so old school," he said. "I don't put a whole lot of stock into it. I know we've got a couple guys who are numbers guys. And I'll look at it, but for the most part, I'll look at it and say, ‘OK, yeah, all right. Sounds good, looks good.'

"I really like what I see on the basketball court. I like to see it with my own eyes rather than go by what this guy does statistically."
One thing Scott pays attention to is where players are most comfortable shooting the ball. Some players shoot 60 percent from the right corner, compared to 40 percent from the left.

"You look at all those stats and it gives you a good idea of what they need to work on," Scott said. "You want to get them comfortable on both sides of the floor. It could be something as simple as his footwork (where) he feels more comfortable planting on his left foot than his right foot. Stats like that I do pay attention to."

There are certain areas Scott pays attention to when he views the stat sheet: such as field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage.

"Random free-throw percentage means if you aren't shooting them well, get your butt in the gym and shoot more of them," Scott said. "Field-goal percentage, I look at that as what kind of shots are you getting first of all. Then let's take a look at your shot selection, as well, and let's look at where you're making shots and where you're not making shots. I do like you can go and check out a guy's percentage in the paint, from about 15-18 feet and then from 3-point line. I do like those stats."

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Curious to know what coach you think would be doing a better job of development and/or record with the roster we've had post Lebron?

Also, this bench does suck. It will never be more than occasionally competent, regardless of coach, as presently constituted.

Slowly but surely, the tides are shifting, and soon we will see the quiet minority become the loud majority. Byron Scott; your days as head coach of the storied Cleveland Cavaliers are numbered.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Wrong.

We're talking about an interview that took place in the locker room no more than 20 minutes after the game had ended and half of this board is acting like Byron just isn't speaking to Dion. Biggest non story/overreaction I can remember in a while on this board.

Ha he definitely doesn't HAVE to explain his decisions but for Waiters to tell the media he had no clue why he was benched makes it look pretty bad on the part of Scott

Re: Rating Coach Scott

At some point Chris Grant will have to make a bold move like the thunder did trading Harden and Green. It's looking like Tristan could be the guy. Young big men are easier to sell in trades. The idea is to keep moving forward and improving. Byron's bench has got progressively worse and worse. He is now hand cuffed to starting 4 players with less than 5 years NBA experience. I know the trend around the NBA is to fire coaches after bad starts. I hope we don't fall into this trend.

maybe so, but TT's haul will look like a grain of sand compared to what Harden brought in. I mean, seriously. if you were a GM from another team and CG came calling about TT, after you got done belly laughing for 15 minutes, are you honestly willing to part with anything more than a mismatched pair of socks and some stale dental floss at this point?

Re: Rating Coach Scott

He is an awful coach which is a good thing for the Cavs since we needed the high picks. Will really question the higher ups if he is the coach for the 13-14 season.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

A: As Kyrie is in year 2, I am hardly worried about whether he leaves in year 7 or 8. He will sign his first extension here as every top player does going back 20 years +

B: Trying to show LeBron we would win right away in his 2nd and 3rd years were the cause of someof our stupidest decisions that affected the long term amount of talent on the team in the LeBron years

C: When OKC started out 3-29(finishing 23-59), did it cause 2nd year guys Kevin Durant and Jeff Green and rookie Russell Westbrook to start looking for ways to escape OKC? NO. They worked on their games, learned to communicate more, listened to their coach, gained experience and got better.

Ignoring the stupid rants after your post, do you think Kyrie will be convinced by the staff if the rebuild year produces a less than stellar record. Or will he want to leave town after 7-8 years too? I don't mind which direction we go in, but we need the pieces to stay so we can contend for a title again.

Re: Rating Coach Scott

Really don't get why people think Scott will be fired. The Cavs just picked up his option year on his contract. Must mean they like him. Really doesn't make any sense to fire someone who is putting a system in place. Call me crazy but maybe we should put some quality players on the court, besides our starting 5, before we call for the coaches head. Have some patience. You know it really shows the Lebron era bandwagon fans are starting to surface.
