Just want to know everyone's thoughts on what Ray Allen will be doing next year. Playing for the Cavs or enjoying retirement.

My wild guess is that Allen is waiting to see if the Cavaliers are making a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 trade, if so he slides into a reserve guard role.

Allen is ok coming off the bench if a championship is within a realistic grasp. He took less money from Miami to do that and without his shot 1 year ago, it would have all been for nothing.

He is currently in China on a Nike promotion trip. He is probably communicating with the likes of James and Miller via text. He absolutely adored playing along side the greatest player today, who wouldn't, so if he realistically thinks he can give it 1 more go he will come to Cleveland.

My guess is we find out by the end of the week when his trip is over, but for just turning 39 the dude is crazy in shape. His competitiveness is too strong, he will want to try and atone for how last season went.

Also likely letting himself get "convinced" by his buddies James and Miller so he looks less like a mercenary and more like a friend helping his buddy chase his dream.

I agree a trade of Bennett and Waiters for a good starting center ( Favors and pick ) move AV to the starting PF with TT as his backup start Wiggins at starting SG and with Allen as his backup. With Miller, Allen and Jones plus KI, James and Wiggins we have enough scorers. Good D with Favors, AV, TT, James and Wiggins. offence plus great D wins championships.

Does anyone think that if we sign Allen, Harris might be pushed out the door. It would mean we have Waiters, Wiggins, Allen, Harris and Felix if you consider him a SG at that position.

I would really like to see Harris develop and learn under he likes of Allen and Miller. But if we sign Allen could we be too wing heavy?

If we sign Allen our roster would be complete at 15. I understand we will probably waive Powell for a more experienced defensive big. So that means the roster will be at 15 and I know that generally most teams like to have at least one open roster spot.

Just wanted to know your guys thoughts on that?

During the off-season, a team's roster can be as big as 20. Just have to cut it down as the season approaches.

With that in mind, even if they sign Allen, I think that they will keep Harris around unless they eventually need to cut him or trade him (and even if it loses $ to sign then waive). I think Harris has shown enough, and played smart enough, that there is some value there. Plus players like Miller, Allen, and Jones may not be around for more than a year. Having some young wing depth, after training with vets like that, is a good luxury, plus you can trade a signed draft pick after 30 days (and it's something like 3 months before you can do that for the free agents). He's also clearly a Griffin pick and now Blatt likes him.

Powell is a different question -- they have to decide if he showed enough to be effective or to show signs of potential development. I don't know if his contract depends on Allen, but if they find another defensive front court playerl, it might not work out so well for him. On the plus side of a Powell contract, he could also help to match salaries in trades...

Good points. I hope we keep Harris, has a good stroke and will learn a lot from our veteran shooters and coaches. Whatever happens, we have already had the best offseason.

The plan for Harris is either cut bait early or wait for him to develop over the next 2-3 years. Like Wuck said; Miller, Jones and Allen (if signed) are only 1-2 year options. Ideally Harris is ready to contribute in 2015-16 or the latest 2016-17 once those older guys fall off. I wouldn't expect anything other than garbage time for him in 2014-15.

I agree, but can we keep him on the roster with all these other wings? I know he can be a serviceable player in the future but can he keep a spot on the roster or will he agree to spend a season in the D League? I just want to see what will happen with Ray in the meantime

If we want him he has to make the 15 man roster. If he's not good enough or worth the effort they will let him go and I'm sure he'll be picked up by someone else quickly.

IMO he will make the team whether we sign Allen or not.

I think Allen retires. As much as I want him in the wine and gold. I'm sure he wants to spend time with his family and kids.

I think once the Love deal settles he'll likely join in. Isn't he 26 threes away from 3,000? Be a shame to stop so close to a mark like that.

To add him and Marion would make our perimeter pretty fucking sick.

I don't even really want Allen... I can't stand him and don't want to boost his resume with another ring. Miller, Jones, and Harris is plenty of bench three point specialists.

Go get Marion.
