I think I'm in a minority of 1 here; but, I dunno if I even want Ray Allen on the team.

To be honest, we're already loaded with offensive weapons. I get what Allen provides us with, but his last year in the league left much to be desired. Yes, on a vet min contract it makes sense. And yes, I'd pick him up if his other option would be the Bulls, Spurs or Thunder. But, the thought of him getting 20 mins a game bothers me.

Why?

Well... I'd really like to see us develop Dion Waiters. I think he has All-Star potential. It's my view that he is at least equal to Bradley Beal if not superior in many respects. I just feel he is a greatly underutilized part of our team, even over these last two seasons where he should have been our second option on offense.

I haven't considered a rotation that includes Irving, Waiters, Delly, Miller, Marion, James, Love, Thompson, Varejao, Amundsen (sp?), and Haywood.

Irving (36) / Delly (12)
Waiters (36) / Miller (12)
James (24) / Marion (20) / Miller (4)
Love (24) / James (12) / Thompson (12)
Varejao (24) / Love (12) / Thompson (12)

Just dunno how to fit him in without reducing Waiters minutes, going to a 3-guard rotation, or gutting Millers minutes? I guess this all boils down to what kind of role he and Miller want on the team.

You're not a minority of 1. I totally agree. Ray Allen wouldn't provide anything that Mike Miller doesn't. Neither of them can guard anyone anymore, and Miller is every bit the shooter. I would prefer we don't sign Allen. If we do, I hope he doesn't get big minutes. I don't even care if he goes to Chicago or San Antonio. What he provides these days is minimal. He won't be the difference in losing a series to those teams.

No No No No if he'll be in of the Bulls, Okc he'll get really minutes and provide what they lack as a 3pt shooter. Only SAS might not need him cuz they're full as a guards also now they have 15 guaranteed contracts so they can't offer Ray anything. Clippers would be interesting cuz they have Crawford but still i prefer him on our bench rather than any of thiers. He'll maximum play 10min And i keep sayin this again again:
His presence will influence our young guys. He'll help Harris Dion and Kyrie on being a sharpshooter. When to slide to corner or wing by the play and lanes. This knowledge is priceless when learned from the greatest shooter of all time.

I don't think Ray necessarily cares if he plays 20 min/night at this point. No inside info for that point, just a guess.

But he'd provide so much more than just on the court stuff.

Nobody's better at getting open looks & getting shots off than Allen, he could do wonders for Kyrie & Dion's off the ball game.

Yeah...I tend to agree with MoFlo. Adding Allen would be a wonderful development tool, especially for Waiters, a kid who really does need to get better at moving without the Ball. Allen is one of the premier off-ball guards of all time. He's also got one of the best work ethics in the game, which certainly wouldn't hurt around our younger guys.

At the same time, I can see gouri's point. If Allen wants to retire, I'm fine with giving Waiters big minutes and letting him produce. But if Ray's decision comes down to Cleveland or somewhere else, I'd rather nab him for our team so he's not playing against us later.

Put me down in the "anti-Allen" camp. Didn't like his attempt to elbow Varejao in the balls. Don't like the way he's dragging his feet on signing.

I think Allen is going to chose a team based on which team will best jump start a coaching career for him + what his family wants + decent chance at a ring. While he still might choose Cleveland, I think there might be other west cost teams that he'll look at. Can't rule out Thibs in Chicago either. anyone know what their relationship is like?

Shouldn't we also be pissed that Haywood is on the team then, too?

As far as the bolded goes, it's tough to be mad at him when it has to do with family.

Never really wanted him. He's acting like a diva. Just make up your damn mind. I don't want him coming in late, being out of basketball shape (I don't care how great of shape he's in, nothing replaces training camp), and then disrupting chemistry.

He's not that good anymore. He's such a liability on defense. A team that has a lot of question marks already defensively, doesn't need a slow guard, that's going to get beat off the dribble a lot.

Haywood was a punk 9 years ago, but he's big and physical with a valuable contract. Cavs need that. It's a lot easier to forgive a player when you need him and if they are working hard to play basketball again.

Ray Ray? I think he's got a plan and his family already told him what they want to do and he's just dragging it out. Maybe the insiders know what his choice is and it's all cool with them. I don't know. My thoughts are that it seems like if Ray really wanted to be on a team, he should have been there for training camp instead of Farveing it up.

I'm really excited to see Delly get some national recognition this year. Already picturing JVG gushing about his effort during an ABC game. He's my favorite role player since Delonte, and I think Allen would cut into his minutes significantly.

Might be a selfish angle, but anything that equals less minutes for Delly is a NO in my book. Kid will be an absolute difference-maker late in the season.

By the way, how flipping God damn good are we to not be all that concerned whether or not the greatest 3-PT shooter of all time comes to our team or not?
