Ray Farmer Suspended 4 Games for Text-Gate

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really undercuts his response here.

Very insightful response.

It seems like Shanahan has become the whipping-boy for those who want to deflect attention away from the mess and dysfunction created by Haslam, Farmer and Scheiner. Everyone has a vendetta against the Browns, they're all wrong, blah blah blah.

I was just saying that if you want to be taken seriously as a journalist you probably shouldn't end your response to a pretty legit critique of an article like a 14 year old girl.

But whateves, I'll let you return to your gleeful hatred of the Browns.

We'll see you again, JLC, when you're one of the few NFL writers who tweets draft picks before they happen. Thanks for nothing boss.

Guy gets called out by some legit writers, responds like a douche. When was the last time someone had to CYO on their bias?

As I said the first day the story came out, you can't ignore the contents. What you can do, though, is follow a pattern of JLC writing scathing pieces that paint the Browns as incompetent as is possible while pumping up past employees....

The thing is, La Canfora aside, there's been enough proof out there that shows Haslam is way too hands on, has a quick trigger finger, throws his weight around way too much regarding personnel decisions, etc..

He's also not the one who first came out with the Farmer info regarding texts (MKC did).

He's also not the only one to report on dysfunction in the Browns.

It's easy to attack La Canfora here, due to his previous pieces on the Browns & his known bias against them, but really, is he saying anything we already didn't know or have a hunch was going on? And believe me, I loathe La Canfora

Look, I love my Browns, probably at an irrational level, but we can't ignore the glaring warning signs of dysfunction.

Now, did La Canfora add a bit fluff to it in order to dramatize it a bit? Maybe. However, I don't think the actual facts are too far off..

Maybe it's the pessimist in me, but it seems really bad in this organization right now.

I think the badgering of La Canfora has more to do with the white washing of Shanahan quitting on the Browns vs. the prior portrayal of Kyle just a year ago as a big part of the problem in Washington. His just sounds like it could have been written by Kyle's agent doing damage control is the point.

And as far as I'm concerned, all can be true: Haslam is a ignorant meddler and Shanahan is a snake who jumped ship after the Browns have him a chance to redeem himself after he was unwanted last offseason. Both can be true.

@MoFlo nailed it for me above. LaCanfora I think uses his writing style to over dramatize things but the underlying facts are rock solid. Haslam is a wild card and his presence certainly feels like it's negatively impacting the team.

I just hope that Haslam realizes what a fool he's been and what he's actually done to put the Browns in this position. More importantly, I hope he can put his ego aside, learn from these mistakes and allow his football people to make the football decisions.

No reason to condemn pointing out LaCanfora's vantage.. Just as he inflamed Browns fans' fears, it's completely fair to do the same on the other side of it. That is, inject some reality without sensationalism.

It doesn't change the Browns' level of dysfunction, but it might add perspective to fans who read and felt helpless of the team's future because of his "writing style".

Bleacher Report's lead NFL writer (Michael Shottey) laid out how the media affects the average fans' perception and how that perception compares to reality in this article, which attends to the Browns' myriad of issues.

Kyle Shanahan was toxic in Washington because ownership interfered in the offense.

We dont know if the Manziel package was Shanahans Brainchild or ownerships but we do know it was shelved.

The Juggling of West, Tate and Crowell starts to come into question in light of the interference.
Also there were reports of Manziel being injured after the Buffalo game.

what about the handling of line after injuries,

The hurry up offense also seemed to fade away amongst other things.

Shanahan didnt appear to have much isay in who played as pettine made it clear it was his call.

Shanahan didnt choose who started.
Any decision he made appears to be reviewed by both the coach and the GM on a play by play basis.

Shanahan chose to come to Cleveland so he had to be promised something. Something he didnt seem to get. A 32 point based list would seem to indicate A coach who didnt get what he signed up for

Theres no doubt in my mind that the Browns pulled a bait and switch on Shanahan and it had very little to do with who they drafted in the first round.

This is clearly on Haslam and Farmer.

You're framing an awful lot of opinions as facts.

Phew... I was getting worried about more turnover..

On the sideline you have the same vantage point as the coach, there is nothing you could see that they couldn't. If you're texting people who are on the sideline from an undisclosed location during the game, then there is the potential for something to gain an advantage.
Every team has coaches with headsets in the press box with direct communication to the sideline. I still fail to see why this is a rule in 2015.

The rule is in place to protect the coaches from the outside influence of ignorant owners and front office management and let them do their job without external pressures. It's a necessary rule, to be honest.

Um, that's not why it is a rule. It's a rule so you don't have spies located around the stadium a binoculars texting in the signal they just stole. Or whatever. If Bill Bellicheck could do this he would have an assistant just for gathering this information.

And really since both teams coaches n the press box have the same vantage point one cannot claim an advantage over the other. It is a good rule, one that should not be hard for the team's GM to follow. When I thought it was Haslam doing this in rolled my eyes. Now that we know it was the GM that is just embarrassing.

Well, yeah I know "why" it's a rule. My comment was in reference to someone questioning the validity of the rule. I just have a different take on it.....
