Everyone, what are your thoughts on reddit basically shitting itself? (I ask this here because I turn to reddit and /r/nba for most of my non-RCF basketball fandom. Further, this is one of the few more reasoned groups of NBA folks that I deal with online and I would appreciate your thoughts.)

I'm not sure that Reddit - focusing on the IAMA guru Victoria - did a great job of engaging the NBA and veteran communities. I did appreciate the Ty Lawson content but I don't think that was something that was put together either by the mods or the admins. I certainly feel like the changing of the guard of reddit affects that community less than the rest of the most frequently default communities.

R/NBA is a circle jerk of mostly unintelligent band-wagoners who try too hard to make a joke.

But still, it makes for an interesting perspective on general NBA topics. It can be refreshing to hear non-Cavs fan opinions on certain things.

I think there were good intentions at heart with the blackout, but the mob mentality made it spin out of control with racial attacks on the CEO. She may be completely out of touch with the userbase and possibly incompetent, but the personal attacks went too far.

That said, I don't think r/NBA or any of the other sports subs paid much attention to it. There won't be much more community engagement like the Ty Lawson interaction given the massive PR hit, but the real draw of r/NBA is the passionate (yet circlejerky of course) community. Aside from RCF they seem to be the most civil NBA forum out there, and I don't think it's lost any steam.

Its like a basketball summit when you compare it to RealGM and Inside Hoops.

Wait so what happened?
Reddit let go of some mod lady who helped with the 'ask me anything' guests and was an ombudsman of sorts forth volunteer mods of the site. She was let go with no explanation or any announced succession plan.

The uproar is not really about her but how little Reddit as a company has done apparently to help its volunteer mods. This was more of a last straw for a community that is waking up to the reality that it has been doing a bunch of free work for a company and has zilch to show for it.

Bet everyone forgets this happened in two weeks max.

I've never posted on that site and have read through 2-3 ama's, but that's just how things work on the internet.

Its your fault we lost in the finals against the Warriors. If you had jinxed in Reddit as well, we could have won. Up your game, Oi.

I refuse to spend any time on there, unless I incidentally hear about an AMA I'd be interested in.

I've read the ones NDT, Matt Damon, Louis CK and a random porn actress did and I was unimpressed by the format, inside jokes and dorkiness of the attendees.

I also don't know what you mean by jinx.

A jinx is when a moron thinks that some small, insignificant thing they do in their house that no one cares about can somehow alter the outcome of some other event they have nothing to do with. I believe it's called the Butter Knife Effect?
