Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Without looking it up I’m thinking Jukebox Hero.

If it isnt that I’m going Urgent.

Nope neither, but your point is proven why they belong. Both good songs. My favorite of theirs is Hot Blooded, the one that is number 1 is not a great song of theirs imo.

It is "I Want to Know What Love Is"

I actually dont like Hot Blooded. Its my least favorite of their hits. I enjoy “I want to Know What Love Is.”

I love Urgent and Juke Box Hero.

Hot Blooded is hokey, but reminds me of child hood and roller skating, so sentimental value.

Urgent and Juke Box Hero are both fantastic classic rock and roll songs. Very under rated band and their chart hits prove that. I cant believe they are not in and some of the crap bands that are in.

Justin Bieber will be in one day. How does that make everyone feel?

I take no issue with it. Guys are always going to hate male pop stars who fuck more girls than said guy could ever comprehend.

He’s a talented singer and his music will carry well into the future.

Not sure about that. He is wildly talented but he hasn't done anything creative. It'd be like giving a commercial an oscar

I...like Foreigner.

:conf (11):

I'll flesh out my dislike for Foreigner, specifically because I have paperwork to do this week and I prefer long-winded takes on old rock bands to work. Foreigner albums when I was a kid were definitely in the same "silo" of music as Van Halen and Journey. I knew that I was supposed to like them because I like all these other bands... but something didn't click. I had the same feeling when I bought Bad Company Greatest Hits. I know I should like this because I like these other bands, I'm not really liking this... what is causing me to want this disc out of my collection?

I can now look back and say that the innovation and individuality was super low and the genre they worked in - corporate rock - kind of lent them to safe, self indulgent themes. Here's another song about having fun and getting your rock off. Here's another song about how great it is to be in a band. Here's the slow song about how hard it is on the road. Here's a love ballad, and on it goes. I knew they were a bunch of musicians thrown together by the record company to create hits, but the soul wasn't really there like a band who formed in high school and just kept at it, finding their voice. It's like a classic rock sweatshop churned out safe hits along with their alcolytes REO Speedwagon.

I do enjoy some of the musicianship on a few tracks. Urgent is a good example of their talent overshining this feeling I have that they didn't really have fun making music. But that silo of music, like Bon Jovi, is going to get people into the HOF and interested because a lot of their fans are looking for that validation. I just keep that hit machine silo separate from the "This band is so ahead of the times and pushing the boundaries" silo, or the "Check this out, the Rock Hall really is becoming more diverse" silo.

Great, fair post. I actually didn’t know Foreigner’s background. Useful info.

I’ll listen to Urgent in shame while my wife and I crank out our second tonight.

Bon Jovi fucking sucks.

Godspeed with making #2. Your kids would be about as spaced out as my two boys, 4 1/2 year gap. They don't always relate right now because of the gap, but I will only be paying for one college tuition bill at a time.

I was ranting against Bon Jovi in the hall of fame the other night over a drink with the wifey and her defense was: "Make a band that chicks like and the guys will have to get into it eventually." I thought she had a point but then she asked if New Kids on the Block are eligible yet. She almost had me believing.

I don't think LL Cool J is getting enough love for his rap history....if we are going rap for "Rock" which we clearly are but I get the debate against.

Not sure how Devo makes it in over The Cure. neither is my style of music, but I think The Cure was far more influential in my opinion.

LL Cool J was the complete package at his peak. He's one of the pioneers from New York, he could mix it up in an old school rap battle but is still remembered for songs to get the panties to drop. If he gets in it's because a group that only did one of those well isn't enough, he had the street cred and the female vote.

Cure could have been let in ten years ago and nobody would have argued against it. The older stuff is still in rotation on the radio and they still pick up new fans because of it. I always felt they would have been in if not for kicking off the whole Goth thing, and because of high school the Goth thing is polarizing. The music isn't clickish but the fans definitely are.

I love Bon Jovi, but to each their own, lol

So if they do rap/hip hop according to importance to the genre, Boogie Down Productions and Kurtis blow probably belong in. They really should do wings by genre as I feel Public Enemy doesn't belong next to Led Zeppelin, but both were amazing at what they did.

Oh I could argue, or more discuss this stuff all day. Importance vs actual hits or sales, genres, etc.

The Zombie's invented the phrase "Whose your daddy" How can you not put them in. They have the best Harmonies in a band outside the Beatles IMO.

Rundgren has some great albums, but is also wildly inconsistent. Unfortunate he is known most for his novelty hit "Bang the drum all day"

Kraftwerk and Roxy Music are 2 band swith a very high ratio of influential/success. There's no Radiohead without Kraftwerk, and Roxy Music helped start the whole spectacle rock/glam rock thing while having some great songs.

The Cure is one of my favorite bands. Some of the sappiest corniest lyrics ever made, but with such style it all works. I think there are very few musicians that have written as many beautiful songs as Robert Smith. Some really insane experimental ones too. I can think of sevearl near perfect albums off the top of my head Wish, Kiss me Kiss me Kiss Me, Disintegration, Head on the door, and Pornography. The band is poorly understood, but I get why people don't like them. Lots of 80's synth sounds, and everyone who imitated them sucks.

Devo rules and are from Akron. Gotta put them in, lol. Anarchists like Ween

What’s your name/who’s your daddy/ is he rich like me?/ Has he taken any time/ is one of the coolest lyrics in music imo.

It’s such a douchebag line but it works against that backdrop. Sexy ass song.

They had a short career because they became giants behind the scenes in music. For influencing the industry behind the scenes, they should get recognition eventually, or the old timer's vote in.

Brian Eno has a ton of influence, yet he hasn't willed his old band in yet. An old college buddy wrote me randomly one day and ranted about how Kraftwerk was great. People are catching up on them. If you are writing a term paper, Kraftwerk is great background music. Ten years from now I think we all talk about these three in the hall. Rundgren was a big champion of Cleveland as a rock venue throughout the 70s and early 80s, and I hope he is rewarded.

I just went through my old CD binder of actual purchased CDs from high school and college: one Zombies album, two Def Leppard albums, two Devo albums, three for RATM and Radiohead, and nine Cure albums. Thinking back to my cassette collection from back in the day, there was some LL Cool J and Janet Jackson... But even more Cure. I'm starting to remember how depressed I was living dependently in my parents house.

I think we just became best friends. Did you see Ween live for free at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this summer? It was walking distance from my place, wife and I got fucked up with her dad and a teacher at my kid's preschool. I'm a retired anarchist and the retirement benefits are shit.
