Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here he is with the Beegees again!!!

Bee Gees probably belong in, had hits before disco, ruled during disco era.

That said they are not the hill I would chose to die on, they can be in or left out for all I care, lol.

they got in long ago. #1 act of the 70s who had a pretty successful career before that. They are criminally underrated.

There stuff before disco was very good. Their disco stuff if you like vanilla funk music is pretty good too.

Its funny that disco is so hated, it came out of funk music and it was popular funk for all races music. It was short lived and got a bad rep real quick though, but there are some really good disco songs like I will survive or anything on the Off The Wall album by Michael Jackson.

The BeeGees did have good harmonies, but I have never understood the fascination with the falsetto. So a guy doesn't use his full voice, and sings in a range usually reserved for women. But with a nasally tone and without much power.

What am I missing?

I never understood the criticism, most of the people who complained about Barry Gibb using falsettos turned around and listened to others people who used falsettos (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen, etc)

Yes, he did go through a brief period where he overdid on all of one album.

Honestly, I wasn't trying to pick on the Bee Gees. They really were talented guys and deserved their place in the HOF. But from Frankie Valli right on through, I just don't get the appeal of the falsetto in particular.

Their post 70s stuff was really good, too, only nobody heard it because of the insane criticism they got for disco. This is one of the best songs from the 90s from anyone.

You never head the Bee Gees?

It's arguable. I hadn't heard pre-saturday night fever bee gees before and they were super cool in the late 60's. I still like the 70's stuff too though.

If you want some tight harmonies that are sorta underrated, the Dave Clark 5 have become an obsession for me in recent years. Any Way you want it has to be one of the hardest songs with beautiful harmonies at such an early date. I am obsessed with this song. You probably know them from when they were active, but this was not a big hit, but it is so goood. Great pop song.

This is 1965, pretty chunky guitars for that time

Never thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right.

Everyone has heard a bit of Eno's work even if they don't know it. Here's a little six second bit of his stuff.... I think he got paid around $50k for that.

I see people talking Eno stuff on here, do people realize he was in Roxy music? Them being included is most definitely a nod to him as a musician as he is the reason some of their stuff is so cool.

As for the falsetto stuff, I think it is one of those things you love or hate. It is really weird, but very affected(not normal singing voice) vocals are really polarizing. Some people are really turned off by Thom York's vocals, and other people are in love with it. I can see it both ways because some bee gees stuff is really annoying, but like Tragedy is a really amazing song. It took me 20 years to like the Smashing pumpkins because of Billy Corgan's voice. It was just too annoying. The music itself finally got through to me.

For a long time my Favorite Frankie Valley and the 4 season song was "lightning is striking again" and then I was absolutely shocked to find out it wasn't them at all. I think like autotune or a theremin or any weird stylistic choice you have to be judicious where you use it.

That's why I brought him up. I learned about Eno from the Trainspotting soundtrack. His Deep Blue Day is playing at one point when the lead character is high on heroin. That scene led me to do a little research and I was glad I did, led me to his trippy solo stuff and Roxy Music. If he doesn't make it in as an artist he should be in as a producer.

He also composed the Windows 95 startup music haha. That is his most widely distributed music

They made disco. I fucking hate disco, but without them and their music behind Saturday Night Fever, disco wouldn't have had the crazy mass appeal that it had. Predictably, almost everything else in that genre was a pale imitation of what they did
