Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

Apparently a Kings TV/radio announcer (Grant Napear) said Kings fans "shouldn't be surprised to see a big name coming to Sacramento as soon as tomorrow." Seems like fans are convinced it would be a free agent signing rather than a trade. He also said the fans would be "excited about the player." http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1142200

If there's anything to this, it's probably some former fan favorite like Bibby or Peja. But for the sake of the Cavs and the Kings 2012 pick, let's pray it's someone like Nene. :chuckles:

Fueling the speculation is the fact that Sacramento renounced their rights to Free Agent Sam Dalembert.
The names mentioned most often on the Sactown forums -based on hints dropped by Napear (no guard, apparently was an All Star) - are David West and AK47.
But you all know how these forums are; unrealistically high expectations.:) So I'm thinking Richard Hamilton.

Apparently, West will sign with the Celtics.

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

From Mark Stein:

Mavs' first swipe, I'm told, will be trying to do S-and-T w/Sacramento for Dalembert by using big trade exception from Tyson Chandler deal.

If Mavs can get Dalembert on one-year deal, they have replacement for Chandler this season and cap space for 2012 free agency as top bidder.

Not immediately clear what Sacramento would want in return if deal can be struck but Kings known to covet Mavs free agent J.J. Barea.

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

Let's pray to the basketball gods that AK-47, Tyreke, Cousins, Thornton, Jimmer and company can sneak into the playoffs and land us the 15th pick in the 2012 draft.

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

If they make it...and we get, say the #5 pick in the draft....we should be set after this draft for the playoffs....

Kyrie, Tristan, 2012 pick, 2012 pick, experienced Eyenga, along with free agent/trades, and we could squeak in in 2013

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

If we make the 8th seed and get swept what the hell is the point? We get a crappy pick and it kills confidence.

Got to start somewhere. Look at Indiana. They made the playoffs last year and all of a sudden free agents are considering them as an option. We all agree the Cavs must suck first to get better but the sucking has to stop sometime.

Agreed and playoff experience is important as well for young players. The playoffs are a different speed. Grant can only handcuff a talented team so much as well. If we do get two nice rookies next year and the young players on the team this year continue to develop there isn't much Grant can do to prevent them from winning other then not signing or trading for anyone. Plus the team will have an abundance of cap space if they amnesty Davis and let Antawn expire or at least not take on a big contract in a trade next summer.

Also the 9th worst team and up have a 6.1% chance of moving up into the top 3. Would it really be that upsetting to draft 14th and see this team get some playoff experience over drafting 10th in 2013?

The team is going to be pretty bad this year, so these are some big hypotheticals, but if we have a top 5 pick in 2013 I think it means we messed up somewhere with one or two of our picks; or just got super lucky with the ping pong balls.

I'm hoping that we pick in the top 5 up through 2013 because of being super lucky. Look at the Thunder. They went from 2007 to 2009 with a top 4 pick all three years, and now they're a contender for an NBA title. As long as we take in some serious ass talent in the 2012 offseason between the draft, trades, and free agent signings, I would be ok with moving forward with trying to make the playoffs. Otherwise, I think we need to manage to suck until the 2013 draft, at which point we have no excuse not to start progressing.

For example, if we acquired something like Davis and Beal in the 2012 draft, then we acquired some more key players through trades and signings, I'd be ok with making a playoff run. However, even if we nailed something like Davis and Beal in the 2012 draft, we could still contemplate on going for ultimate suck for one more year and keep on accumulating draft picks in order to land one more big piece while maintaining flexibility in the 2013 offseason so we can land some free agents on top of that.

Basically, I'd like to suck up until the 2013 offseason as a result of factors outside of a lack of talent such as having an entire roster of players with three or less years of NBA experience. Such a roster wouldn't necessarily lack talent, but merely not have realized that potential talent yet due to inexperience, ergo the Thunder model.

I look at this rebuilding process like a giant sling shot. The further we back up, the more potential energy we have.

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

Sooo, why are the Kings recruiting Jamal Crawford?

Tyreke, Thornton, Jimmer, Hickson, Cousins, Salmons and now Crawford? Jesus. If they gave each of them a ball it wouldn't be enough.

Tyreke/Jimmer
Crawford/Thornton/Garcia
Salmons/Greene
Hickson/Thompson
Cousins/Hayes

This = my all NBA disaster team... but what do you expect when one of the Kings team captains is Cousins, lol.

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

With Crawford, that squad has a thirty point game potential in every starter except JJ. And JJ is still an offensive threat. I don't think we are going to see mike brown defense out of these guys, but there will be a lot of buckets in every game. That could be enough to get and eight seed or (god forbid) better. It worked for Phoenix...

Crawford makes no sense whatsoever. And ball movement with that lineup would mean "moving the ball towards the rim asap".
Word is, the Maloofs are trying to show that they are willing to spend, because of fear the NBA will take the team out of their hands. Don't know how much of that is true, though.

AK47 would be a much better pickup, but I think the Kings will have to overpay grossly to pry him away from Russia.

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

Sam Amick: On the Jamal Crawford front, @Jason Quick thinks he's leaning toward Sacto, while I said Portland. Kings officials have been optimistic.

Hoping kings get crawford...and that he pushes them into the 8th seed :fingersx: ...long shot I know

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

Despite the fact that every fiber in my being is telling me that the Kings will be a train wreck of epic proportions if they bring in Crawford, maybe the plan is so crazy it just might work?

I mean, we know NO isn't making the playoffs (but LAC takes their spot). Who else could fall out? Denver? Portland?

I think OKC, Dallas, LAL, LAC, Memphis, and SAS are locks... that leaves two spots.

Re: Sacramento Kings ROAD-TO-THE-PLAYOFFS watch!

I bet one of the amnestied PGs make it to Sacto and pushes them over the top (since its a short season). Davis, Arneas, possibly Mo
