Samardo Samuels: Thoughts Observations and Projections

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was thinking this exact thing when I was watching the replay of the game last night. Samardo was interviewed at the half and was asked how the Cavs let the nets make a run and get back in the game. He spouted off some nonsensical "answer" without touching any of the points in the interviewers question(and it seemed like he was struggling to get that out). I definitely think something might be wrong mentally with him. I mean Ryan Hollins is dumb, but the guy can formulate a sentence when asked a question.

Maybe we're being too hard on him and should give him the benefit of the doubt; he may have been just too distracted by how much Jeff Phelps looks like Kuato from Total Recall...

I think given how thin we are talent wise at the 4/5 and Jamison's impending departure

we will be looking at drafting a 4/5 this year

I don't want to give up on Samardo because I like him as a backup big over Hollins/Erden

he needs to seize the moment with playing time he is given

just my opinion...but I think, like the rookies, Samardo and Manny were really hampered by the lockout...Samardo is still a rookie in my eyes in the sense that he still hasn't had a real offseason where he has a nutritionist, a personal trainer, and access to facilities to get better...sure he played pick up games and "practiced" with other pros, but let's be real here, thats not an NBA offseason...personally I hope he's re-signed by the Cavs or someone else very early in the offseason so his ass can get in a gym, the weight room, and so he has access to all the things he should get in an offseason...just my take on Samardo

I would guess that Samardo is one of the four or five players that still do not know what Byron is trying to get the team to do? He shows glimpses of being an NBA player, so I could see how such a thing go hamper a player's development. Then again, wtf man, learn this shit. Any thoughts on who the four or five players are?

Omri we know. Hollins possible? Semih Erden has to be one. Thompson wasn't getting a lot of run prior so he very well could be one as well. I don't think Walton, Harris and Sloan count.

Maybe it's easier to just count who does get it? Jamison, Parker, Irving, Boobie, Varejao.... taking out Hollins, Walton, Harris and Sloan that leaves: Casspi, Gee, Thompson, Erden, Sam-Sam, Harangody.

-Gee seems to be on Byron's good side so let's move him over as well to those who "get it."

-Hollins, even though he's gone, still could have been one who did not get it... but he and Harangody are worthless so fuck them they don't matter.

-So worst case scenario you're looking at Thompson, Sam-Sam, Casspi and Erden. Seems likely and about right.

Samardo played very well beside Thompson last night. Whatever his demons, he has ability. Delonte had his issues as well but he could play,...

Samuels is definitely frustrating. His one move in the post on Monday was so so good though. Put up about four fakes, actually reading what the defender was doing, just waiting for him to bite on a fake...nothing mechanical about that at all. Couple that with a seemingly decent jumper and willingness to bang around inside...you just have to hope he wants it, because he could be a solid rotation player.

Why is Kuato in a picture with the Cavs logo and Jeff Phelps attached to some hairy guy's chest? I don't get it.

Amazing pull

Every time I watch him, and he dominates down side for short periods of time I ask myself, "Why can't he be two inches taller?" He's an excellent post player, and I'd argue his moves on the block are by far the best on the team. It's disappointing to see good talent, that has seemingly no motivation.

I just serious a question of this guys ever going to get it. Has to frustrate the hell out of Byron

I think the guy is just dumb and lazy. He shows glimpses of being an NBA player but he's probably one of those guys who get's it when he realizes that he better get his act together or he's gonna be out of the league.

I cant wait until next year when we draft enough players that Samardo just sits his lazy ass at the end of the bench.

SAM-SAM!!! Straight balling tonight boy.

Lester and him starting in the All-Star game next year baby.

EDITED TO ADD: I know it's been said before around here but "you know" he's best interview on the team as well. The voice... expression... inflection... the total package.

Indiana's short, unathletic, non-Hibbert frontcourt was ready made for Samuels.
