So long, David Griffin

Re: David Griffin?

Every thread where people bitch about someone else's opinion and then provide bullet points why it's wrong just has to stop. This is the 3rd thread I've read today where it's happened.

Stop bitching children. Don't agree with someone because he's an idiot? Ignore them ffs.

Stop ruining my hideaway from real life or I'm gonna start mailing you all shitty diapers

To be fair(and yes I'm ignoring the part where you're post could have been sarcastic), X has been around and contributing to this site for 8 years and the vast majority of those years, the quality of posts, debate, and discussion where on a level much higher than where things are at now. This is still a great site, but you say "this is how forums work" and at one time, this forum din't work that way.

Re: David Griffin?

I haven't been following too closely but from what iv gathered his plan involves adding players who can shoot from deep. If were gonna suck I guess I would rather suck with 40% 3pt shooters rather than 20 and 30%'ers

I couldn't care less if people debate. That's why we are here. But I read a total of 5 threads tonight. In 3 of those threads, someone made a stupid post and it took 4 posters and 18 posts a piece to argue with bullet points why the original argument is flawed. Don't waste the time overanalizing and debunking the original shit post. Just move on.

Re: David Griffin?

By my count, Griffin has only actually made three moves.

1. Traded for Spencer Hawes.
2. Fired Mike Brown.
3. Hired David Blatt.

We know via various sources that the Spencer Hawes trade was negotiated by Grant before he was fired and was left on the table as a potential deal to move forward with if nothing better emerged at the deadline. Griffin was just the guy who pulled the trigger.

Firing Mike Brown and replacing him with Blatt was, I think we can all agree, a great move.

Other than that, it seems stupid to criticize Griffin for moves he hasn't even made yet, or for rumors that he is interested in Free Agent X. We don't know if any of them are true. It would be akin to praising him for the rumored trade of Jarrett Jack for Thornton. I think that would be a fine trade, but until Griffin gets it done I'm not going to start slapping him on the back.

Re: David Griffin?

I agree. Hard to judge until the draft and FA and even then we won't know the results until midway thru the year. The 1st half of the year will be ugly, anytime you have a new coach and new system and potential roster changes you will take time to develop. With that being said, next year at this time we can have an educated debate.

Re: David Griffin?

I think he is offensive oriented and will likely try to build this team in a way similar to the Suns.

His focus seems to be on making the pieces fit.

I've noted this a lot in here..the Cavs will look similar to the Suns..running, shooting, bigs that can pass, etc.

Re: David Griffin?

I think the coaching search was great. We were all biting our nails and really underwhelmed by the prospects. I think it's possible Griffin was too. Maybe Lue would have been good, I can see that. I would like to get him as an assistant.

However, this coaching hire is a real swing for the fences move whereas I think a lot of us thought Grant was being too conservative. I like how specific Griffin has been about what he wants even if I don't agree with it all the time. When he talks you get info, which is different than Grant.

I hope we can do better than Frye, and I am concerned about the defense of this team. I want Parker, but I understand the worries people have about his defense.

Also, I do wish people would not look to negate every comment. Instead of asking "what is wrong with this post?", perhaps you could say "What can I add to this discussion."

The back and forth on ideas is ok, but man there is tons of nitpicking everywhere. Very low content posts IMO cluttering up the board with Garbage.

Re: David Griffin?

Why is this thread title still a question?

"David Griffin?"

It should be
"David F****n Griffin!"

Re: David Griffin?

Jesus.

I think it's alright if the guy opens a discussion space about the person tasked with managing arguably the most important Cavaliers off-season in 4 years.

Still there bro?

Re: David Griffin?

I'm happy with Griffin so far because his biggest move to date, hiring Blatt, shows an organizational change in philosophy and vision. It's a huge risk but shows that Griffin wants to build something long term and not a team that perennially finishes 7th and 8th in the Eastern Conference. He could have hired Gentry. He could have hired Hollins. These aren't bad coaches and could have probably pushed this team to the 8th seed. In years past, we always seemed to be going for these "low risk low reward" hires, with re-hiring of Mike Brown being the most glaring example. Griffin seems to be willing to take a "high risk high reward" approach with Blatt which is good to see.

We'll have to wait to see his approach on draft night. I'm so sick and tired of watching Cavs' drafts in which the Cavs seem to think they've outsmarted everyone, only to realize that they haven't. I hope he doesn't over-think it but this draft is so loaded it's hard not to. If Griffin makes our team better for the long term, I don't care how he does it and with whom.

That said, I think the worry is Dan Gilbert interfering with how Griffin want to build the team. Early signs are good considering how much Gilbert's paying Mike Brown to be watching Netflix over the next four years. As I said above, the Blatt hire seems like a 2-3 year project which is another good sign, although this team with an attitude adjustment and the #1 pick should get into the playoffs this year to satisfy Dan.

All I want from Griffin is to be transparent, logical, and to establish some continuity for the future. Easy.

Re: David Griffin?

I wouldn't "crown his ass" yet. He hasn't made any "A" moves so far, but he's had very little time so the jury is still out on him.

IMO, his first test will be constructing a playoff caliber roster next season.

I voted an "A" grade for the Blatt hire.

Re: David Griffin?

Can we discuss our GM here?

Me, personally, I'm a little confused by the direction he's trying to take this team, and the moves he's trying to make.

I wasn't really fond of him, because I was tired of Gilbert hiring inside house, and I wanted him to go elsewhere to get someone else perspective.

What are your thoughts or concerns about Griffin?

How do you feel about the Lue hire, bud?

Re: David Griffin?

Here's my take on Griffin so far:

-Didn't over react and trade Kyrie, Dion, or Bennett at the trade deadline

-Good trade for Hawes. Improved our play and spacing when he got here.

-Convinced Gilbert to keep him on as GM

-Identified Blatt, waited his postseason out, and then convinced Gilbert to allow him to sign him as coach.

I don't count any of the draft and trade rumors as pluses or minuses until they actually happen.

So I've actually got him as 4/4 so far. Obviously, what he does in the next three weeks is the big test and will shape all of our initial grades on him.

Fair points. I agree with a lot of it. Thank you.

Re: David Griffin?

I'm fairly neutral on the Hawes trade, but didn't it come out that Grant laid the framework for that trade? He was just gone before the deadline.
