"Megaupload was taken down w/out SOPA being law.

The takedown of Megaupload wasn't at whim. The warrants and indictments behind taking down of megaupload (In the months) was put together months in advamce for accountability and proof. Those "Anon" kids need to go outside.

ANON has gone after 8 more sites than the ones mentioned before (BMI, RIAA, MPAA, US Copyright Office, Universial Music Group)

The whole take done is kinda of funny because Megaupload will just get a new URL and start over

The other thing with Megaupload is they have complied with every DMCA request they have received from the copyright holder, they also have offered to help major studios integrate streaming services numerous times

Megaupload was also denied the same audio/visual copyright scanning software codecs that were given to youtube as a piracy prevention method (this is why some videos on youtube have flipping video images ,static instead of audio or audio removed all together. Somethings need provided by the copyright holders for this to work)

Here is a recent timeline involving Megaupload in the News (DMCA agents that are on IRC are annoyed and saying this makes their job that much harder as Megaupload was one of the quickest responders to DMCA requests and easy to work with)

12-DEC-2011 - MegaUpload files suit against UMG on the grounds that UMG cannot remove the content as MegaUpload holds the copyright, not UMG.

16-DEC-2011 - UMG says "So what? We can take down whatever we want!" and "You can't touch us. This isn't DMCA. We didn't take it down because of copyright. We took it down because we can."

21-DEC-2011 - MegaUpload labelled a "rogue" site by the USTR.

28-DEC-2011 - MegaUpload wants an explaination from UMG.

19-JAN-2012 - MegaUpload shut down by Feds

The reason your don't wan to set them on a crusade is that when those 2 groups combine forces towards the same goal things like the HB Gary hack happen (also they supposedly have a bunch of info that includes names, address, bank acccounts, phone numbers, ect.. all on a world wide pedo ring that is supposed to drop sometime in the next few months, if it hasn't already, supposed to have some house hold names in it. I will believe it when I see the evidence though)

It's very possible that there will be some overlaps with what they have and what happened at PENN... I was offered the encryption key to the file on the darknet but didn't want any part of it due to the content (I was told the source file has actual photos of the acts as they were being commited and that faces were of public figures we would recgonize that are invovled in anything from government to sports. Like I said content was not something I wanted to view and I will believe it once it's been vetted and released via public news sources)

Icefilms has already switched its links over to 2shared. The problem is the massive archive of megaupload links they had are now gone, but stuff from today going into the future will be uploaded via 2shared I believe.

Heard the same thing... I hope this thing just gets put to rest for good. I know it won't happen as long as the entertainment industry keeps putting money in the pockets of the Congressmen, but it would be nice.

I wanted to start getting in to this but has anyone installed that "restriction blocker" on Chrome? I was going to but don't know if I trust it yet. Was wondering if it is safe? I thought it said something about taking information?

Just got an email that said SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today after 13 million signed the google petition
