Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser #2

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So when Disney redoes all of the prequels in 4K with new special effects, which surely you know is inevitable since it's a guaranteed profit center for them; would that really change your opinion of the films?

I was actually going to bring this up. Do you think this will really happen? I almost...like, want them to do it...

There was even a side-by-side comparison of Star Trek and last night's trailer, and the point was clearly made that the cinematography is almost identical.

Could you point me to this? I just watched the trailers for both Star Trek movies and don't really see it.

That will definitely happen, but they most likely will wait until either they run out of stories they want to tell after 4, 5, and 6 or George Lucas dies. Re-doing those movies while he is alive would be kind of a slap in the face, and that doesn't seem to be the relationship Disney has with him right now.

Think about what you're saying for a second, and ask yourself this...

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Lucas re-releasing the original trilogy with added effects. And to be honest, the prequels basically killed my love of all things Star Wars for a long time. I don't even remember the last time I watched the original films. I'll probably see the new one in the theater, but I'm not terribly hyped about it. It's not that I think it will be bad or anything...I think it will be miles better than the prequels. It's just hard for me to get terribly jazzed about Star Wars when the last good Star Wars movie was over thirty years ago.

I am positive they will do it. The remastered editions made millions of profit for Lucas and people generally love them.

For all the shit they get for doing silly things like inserting childish songs, etc, the overall quality of the remastered editions is greatly superior to the originals.

So, when they re-release the prequels with updated CG (remember, Clones and Revenge are 100% digital so this is actually far easier to do), I'm wondering if people will give these movies another look.

As a videophile and someone who owns every edition of Star Wars including the first Japanese releases of all six films on DVD (that predate the American releases by quite awhile), as well as the laserdisc versions - which were great; I really appreciated Lucas remastering the originals.

To be honest, they look fantastic thanks to the effort Lucasfilms put into modernizing the special effects and remastering the film. I think people forget what those movies originally looked like on Laserdisc and VHS since we're all so used to seeing the remastered editions.

I'd bet money if you asked Lucas he wouldn't have a problem with it. He's the king of going back and redoing/retouching movies. They'd just be changing the special effects, and potentially re-editing the films a bit; but I doubt they'd change much of the movies themselves.

And keep in mind bro, Lucas has said he's not remotely a part of the films anymore and doesn't want to be ever since Disney literally told him to fuck off with his ideas. :chuckle:

Remember, this version of the story is completely different than what it was supposed to be. Lucas wanted another story focused on children growing up and Disney canned it.

I don't mind remastering. That's inevitable as we continue to evolve our home viewing platforms. I just wasn't a big fan of all the new effects. Some were okay and added to the films, but a lot of them were just Lucas throwing unnecessary shit into the background (like all the stuff on Tatooine, for example), or him tinkering just to tinker (like replacing ghost Anakin with Hayden at the end of the final film).

Hey, what do you know, using real sets and real people makes everything look....more real. It looks like their using cgi and digital effects to make enhancements, rather than making the entire movie on a green screen with the actors interacting with tennis balls. It's like they know exactly what made the prequels suck.

I would like them to release a 4k original cut of the first trilogy without all the added CGI and effects and all the other stupid changes. Specifically get rid of vaders nooooo! in return of the jedi and have Han shoot first.

And get rid of the Jabba scene is Episode 4.

Just incase anyone didnt know, this is what Jabba was intended to be.

I'm talking about literally re-doing the movies though, meaning new actors, re-defining what the story around the fall of anakin was, etc.

I truly think that happens, but not for awhile.

I know, and I'm glad they had the balls to stand up to him because too many Yes Men is what caused the prequels to fail on so many levels.

I'll always appreciate the guy for coming up with this universe (and Indiana Jones), but he lost his way as a story teller (and never really had it as a director).

That above all pissed me off. More than Jabba in IV, more than Greedo shooting 1st, more than Jar Jar and the entire Gungan race.

It's just one of dozens of totally unnecessary changes when the originals were re-released, but it's definitely one of the worst. Greedo shooting first is up there too for me because it is such a major change for Han's character. Most of the changes are just obnoxiously unneeded. That one is actually a character moment that Lucas totally screwed up in the retelling.
