Couldn't help myself
So like... I wrote college papers on chinese investment in Africa,, copper mines in zimbabwe, democratization of nigeria... and now everyone seems to be talking about this sort of shit with this kony video
Almost makes my major seem useful... I'll have to bring up some of tehse topics next tim e I'm at the apple store. which is never. hipsters wouldn't give a hist, I made up my mind already. "yo bro what's your feel on the Ivory coast? If you think child soldiers is bad, wait till you heard about the shit in Angola man them bitches dont know political violence from a free and fair election grounded in democratic instituions and a genuine political culture."
I'm tired
you guys are both right, i'm pretty ignorant of the subject and i'll admit it. I never pushed for support of invisible children in my post though, i said that the issue and the charity aren't even really related. I never claimed to be a social activist. All i said that the video did was help people became aware of the situation in the first place, albiet biasly.
more people are aware that kids are suffering in Africa because of this video, you can't deny that.
That homeless person still lives a better life than more than half of the people in Africa.
Tired of patting yourself on your back?
I am not anyone's anxiety or fear.Distracted....are you his panic?
Only 31% of the proceeds actually go to the children of Uganda? Take a guess how much of the Susan G Komen proceeds actually go to cancer research. It's nowhere close to 31%. Additionally, they have trademarked "For the Cure", so any non-profit that wants to invoke for the cure into their tagline will be sued. Nice.
The Red Cross? Check out their bait and switch scandal when 9-11 happened.
Point is, most charitable organizations aren't as charitable as they appear. Just because someone posts the Kony video on Facebook doesn't necessarily mean said person believes they're "fixing" Africa. And if it makes someone feel good about themselves, so be it. I'd rather have someone post/share/like a video that brings awareness then not doing anything. Will it bring Kony to justice? Probably not. But in a nation filled with stupidity, it does't hurt to know shit.
Susan G Komen employees a lot more people than Invisible Children does and while they may only donate around 23-25% of their revenue, the races they organize in the charities name donate up to 75-80% of proceeds towards breast cancer research. Also, I dont think you read my post about WHO the money is going to that is also causing quite a stir.
