Fastlane Tonight - in Cleveland!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
On an unrelated note, the Vaudevillains have totally won me over. Their gimmick is stupid, but they make it work. They also work together like an actual tag team and not two guys thrown together because the WWE didn't know what to do with them in singles competition.

So are we to assume that Blake and Murphy will be getting the call-up to the main roster now, having dropped their belts? It's no secret that the WWE tag team division is really fucking weak right now and they are a pretty solid heel team.

I want to say no, because they're boring as fuck to watch, but yeah, probably.

you say owens/cesaro might be the match of the year then go on to say Owens cant cut it ?

The guy who dropped the MGK into a table.has nothing to make stand out.

These guys can get the sales if they get the chance. Owens headlines NXT to biggest drawing events and he sells merchandise.

one key thing about Owens is he can sell a match against anyone heel or face and he can bring in crows whether he is wrestling in the WWE or helping a new brand like GFW establish this self

We need to establish the difference between being match of the year in terms of technically a great match (see Ly... Bayley v Banks) and having a a huge match (brock v taker). Cesaro/Owens will be the first.

Another key thing to establish is that selling merch in NXT to marks and selling merch at Raw to moms are two different things. All these indy guys sell merch at NXT, because thats the show we like to watch. Owens isn't selling merch to Moms for their kids, or even to teens. When you scan an audience, KO shirts are on 20-40 year old dudes.

I love Kevin Steen. I think he's fucking hysterical, can talk of the top, and can just flat out go. But his gimmick is kind of weak. A prize fighter to bring home a paycheck for his family is a face gimmick, but they awkwardly tried to flip in as heel. It worked in NXT because he fucked up El Generico with the apron bomb, and Generico sold it.

It stopped working when he does it all the time and goes for it constantly.

See, I'm on the other side of the fence. I like Owens' character a lot. To borrow a phrase from Brandon Stroud; He’s the every man, with the understanding that every man is actually an asshole.

Gabel andJordan is gonna be good competition for the vaudevillians. both fundamentally sound guys who use genuine olympic wrestling moves and grappling technique.

Samoa Joe, Rhyno, Corbin sami zayn are all WWE level talent.

Owens and / or Rusev should of been targeted at Roidback . This big show, miz stuff continuing even after they had a shot at scrapping the whole Thing.

btw turning traditional face values and applying them as a heel justifications. one of the reasons NXT has been so appealing to so many is because they generally avoid caricatures and when you see one its usuually the NXT poking and having fun.its not the eighties anymore

That's him, though. He generally is a sarcastic twat. His gimmick doesn't work like that.

How can he powerbomb Sami Zayn off an apron and put him out, and then say he's doing it for his family? He isn't acting sadistically, because that would work.

Tonight might be make or break for Owens. They aren't big on him. I think the Cena win got to his head and he stopped working hard. He legit does look like he got bigger. Lazy Kevin is bad for wrestling.

You're misreading it. The "I'm just doing it for my family" bit is legit, but he exploits it to the max degree by being a giant hypocrite and using it as an excuse to act like an asshole.

I think it's top quality troll heel work.

I think the idea is that he says he's doing this things for his family as a cheap justification for being an asshole, not that he's actually doing them for his family. Haha @CBBI beat me by like two seconds.

And I don't know about him not working hard...every match he's had in the WWE has been either great or a match of the year candidate. His win over Cena is one of the best matches I've ever seen, not just this year.

It's not coming across as troll. Even in the slightest. It comes off as an after thought and that he has no direction as a character. Equal parts him and writers/Kevin Dunn.

The working hard thing is a gym aspect. Even Steen at his heaviest was amazing in the ring. He got that big push because he was showing work (his last ROH match to when he debuted is night and day), and that seemingly came to a complete halt.

guess you missed the finn balor promo

The point is Owens is completely narcissitic and believe he is right in what he does. whether its powerbomibg cena for trying to shake his hand after a loss. Throwing MKG into a table for putting his hands on him. or mocking the minnesota crowd for cheering him beating cena and booing him when he talks about cena.

Dunn doesnt like owens . it is no secret. because he is has a similiar non traditional build like a dusty rhodes and he acts like an Anderson and Dunn doesnt like old School 4 horseman guys and he doesnt like guys from nxt in general because thats Triple h's and dusty rhodes project.

it has nothing to do with Owens appeal, shtick or wrestling ability. complete politics.

Owens is flexible enough to create a rivalry with anyone.. whether its orton, Sheamus, Rollins, cena, ryback, rusev. He can teeter the line like goldberg and rock. most of all he can sell merchandise and is very logo savvy.
He also propped up cesaro who was irrelavent before Owens came onto the scene.

You think Cena lets Cesaro put him in a submission hold in the middle of the ring or rusev nearly taking out cena without Owens coming in to disqualify the matches.

Owens is also shrewd . He bounces out of all of Cenas major moves and taps out justifying that he didnt want to risk injury to break the move because he has to support his family.

most importantly people came out of the last cena owens fight thinking Owens should of won.

now the question is do they let Owens win a feud against what is a mid card guy whose only getting pushed because of Owens.

Cesaro belongs on a tag team

You lost your credibility when you said Cesaro belongs in a tag team. Dude can go in the ring and is one of the best workers in WWE.

Cesaro's main problem is that he can't talk, like, at all. It's tough to rise to prominent singles success when you can't cut a decent promo to save your life. He can definitely work in the ring, and he's certainly one of the top guys in the WWE at that aspect. That's why everyone is expecting the Owens/Cesaro match to be great. He's just struggled to find a place in singles competition because off his inability to talk, and also because the WWE isn't exactly great at booking to begin with.

Jon Stewart rocking an excellent homeless beard tonight.

Needless to say, this is not a pro-Cena crowd. :chuckle:

Kind of amazing how the top heel in the company (Rollins) gets more cheers than the guy they're trying to push as the top face.

First match was pretty meh.

I have no idea who I'm supposed to be rooting for in this tag team match.

Lucha Dragons putting on a pretty nice show out there, so I've decided to pull for them.

That was a pretty good match. It ended kind of abruptly, though. I would have liked to have seen it go another five minutes once it started getting good and everyone started getting involved all at once.
