Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

why are people calling Speights a rent a player? three teams in 3 years just might have woken him up and he might thrive in Scotts system and under his tutorage. Doesn't he have another year on his contract as well.
it wouldn't surprise me to see him replace Zeller as the starting center in a few weeks. Zeller needs to regain his shot and a stretch in the 2's might just do him some good.
Walton and Livingstone on the floor with 3 shooters may not be the most athletic unit, but they should be able to score heavily on many/most nights ...depends on how many they give up ...and we do have the shooters to spread the floor in Speights, Ellington, Casspi & Daniel Gibson

They are doing so because he can has a player option this year on his contract. He can opt out and will opt out because he is paid less then he is worth. Therefore, he is the very definition of the term "rent a player." If Mr Speights really wants to play for this team, and the Cavaliers want him, then he can sign with us in the off season. It's that simple. But, hanging on to him and passing up valuable assets for him would be an incredible mistake. Doesn't even factor in how he is "artificially" adding wins if he isn't going to remain here. You don't add veteran players to add wins while rebuilding. At least, not if you are smart. Since I see Mr Grant is being very intuitive, I expect Speights to be gone before the trade deadline.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

The problem is Speights is his current contract is perfect if he doesn't opt out, but if he does opt out, we don't want to tie up the money it would take to sign him after the increase roll he will see here because we want to ensure we have max money for 2014. Moving him for a player and a pick is better than a few more wins and having him leave. We had a similar situation with Sessions last year.

Get a first round pick for taking him, get a first round pick for sending him out.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

Eat it tankers!!

Cavs will start winning more games and it will be OKAY! Karma takes care of everything, as we saw many times, including when the tank lost the coin toss to the Hornets last year.

REMEMBER it wasn't a tanked out record that got us our rookie of the year, it was the 9th spot. That pick was attained by getting a good man away from an ahole in LA, and bringing a bunch of lost souls some guidance. Good Karma there. We finished strong and got 2 strong players, maybe even our first two choices from the draft (still don't know if "rated much higher" is a quiet play on words from Grant).

I guess I shouldn't have told you tankers to eat it and then went on about Karma. I apologize and I'm sure I'll now eat something soon.

All I'm saying is you don't have to root for the Cavs to lose for the Cavs to be successful. You actually don't. The percents set up the way they are just about wash away the ability to tank with any sense of control or assurance. Worst record can get you the fourth pick. Fourth worst record can get you the first pick. Baron Davis can get you Kyrie Irving.

This whole draft thing is out of control. Tanking is useless. You can't beat the odds with a tank.

Please consider rooting for THIS Cavalier team to win.

Can we call this Tanking 2013: Shabazz Muhammad Al Panzer.

Yes, let's base our rebuild strategy around building good karma! This will surely bring us a championship contender in no time...

Seriously, what the hell is so hard to understand about the worst your record is the better your % chance at the top pick are and the higher your draft ceiling becomes? How is this a difficult concept? People are so enamored that it is "possible" to win the lotto with a 1% chance, they don't realize those odds are terribly shitty. Have you taken a Stats class before?

I think people on both sides are overreacting. On the one side, we beat two teams that are only in the playoff chase because this is the East and another team that sucks roughly as much as we do. We're not on cruise control to the playoffs and we're still the worst team in the league. On the other, I'm not ready to call off the tank because of a few wins. We're still not a great team, and there's a good chance a few of our role players aren't on the roster when the trade deadline passes.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

speights is 25.ellington is 25. Selby is 21. what they do for this season is give the cavs a competent rotation that allows Scott to actually coach and allows the young core to stay fresh while they develop for the rest of the season.

Do they give the Cavs trade assets? Sure but they also provide value to the Cavs outside of adding just a couple wins. im not sure why theres all this fawning about caps space. the Cavs wont need to pay anyone over 10 million until 2015.

the Cavs have 28 million in committed Salary next year. the min will be around 53 million. thats 15 million they will need to spend regardless . take awa waltons 6 million and the cavs could very well give speights a 7 million dollar 2 or 3 year contract without infringing on their cap space.

Speights will take it too. he knows he isnt starting anywhere including the cavs. 7 mill is a good salary for a back up big. of the 8 players who exactly do you think the Cavs will take priority on resigning ? walton? Gibson? Casspi? as far as the other five is the cavs gonna drop 5 million on them for the next season. not happening.

as far as the atlanta hawks go . they used the same build as OKC. to a lesser degree of success.

Cavs will have a lottery pick this season and it will be pretty hard for them to finish in the bottom three if their young core continues to grow as they have the last few weeks.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

7 mill is a good salary for a back up big.

But if things well (I know - when does that happen?), Speights is at best fourth big behind TT, AV, and TZ and maybe fifth big if we go big with our top draft choice next June.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

They are actually at close to $33 mil w Andy, Kyrie, Tristan, Dion, TZ, Speights, and Gee. I am assuming Selby will be back bc he is so cheap. That brings it up to $34 mil.

Then one of Casspi, CJ, or Ellingtion will be back. That will bump us up to $37. Include a cap hold for atleast two picks and were over $40.

So we actually only need to spend around $14 mil.

Moves will be made with the expirings we got to take on extra salary for next year. RJ from GSW is one of the best fits for both teams.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

I'm thinking that the tank will be back on track by the time the deadline is over. Ellington, Speights, Luke, CJ, and Boobie are all possibilities in trades.

Keeping Speights until the end of the season just doesn't have the value of having a higher pick especially when we can find another Speights after this season anyway if we want one. Creating our core of 4-5 guys right now is really what matters.

If Speights and one or more of those guys are traded and no one of value comes back, we could end up going back to being that team that comes close to winning in games, but just can't get over the hole that our bench digs for us. I'm praying that happens.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

And the tank is back on track, bitches! Apparently the upgrade worked because we lost to a Golden State team that was down 3 starters and a key bench player. Time to set the tank into hyperdrive!

1. Counting Bogut as a starter is a joke. He's played like a game and a half this season, and they are 10 games over anyway.

2. Jarret Jack is the best back-up in the league. Barely any drop-off.

I seriously hate to be the bearer of the bad news, but when Kyrie is healthy, this team is going to hovering .500 the rest of the way, give or take 5 games.

Re: Tankapalooza 2012-2013 Edition!

Some silly posters thought the tank was in jeopardy after an earth-shattering three game win streak.

What a bunch of paranoid patties
