Team USA and FIBA 2014 World Cup

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Wall wants to make Team USA so bad he should stop getting outplayed by Kyrie every year during training.

Meh I don't completely blame him. I think most of us have gotten the impression that the coaches there don't view him as a good fit for "team USA basketball." Basically, he is probably right in saying that Coach K knew ahead of time he was unlikely to make the team.

He probably didn't deserve to make the team but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some favoritism visible by the coaching staff at times (cough cough... Coach K and Kyrie) and I can understand how that would be frustrating.

Can't have it both ways.. Wall played like shit in a game that was headlined as being the determining factor in who would get cut. If he's saying he deserves it over Kyrie, then he's out of his mind; especially with George and Durant out of the equation. Irving is by far the better choice, based on their performances, as well as fit.

Lot of salty faces over there in Washington with Wall and Beal basically getting embarrassed. "I've been in the league 4 years," means what? I guess since Rose is starting by default Wall felt he shouldn't get the boot over Kyrie.. :chuckles: Maybe somebody should show him some tape of the scrimmage; would love to hear his reasoning for having played like ass.

Speaking of Kyrie in this thing, its a huge bonus for our Cavs team this year.

Kyrie will spend the next month or so learning how to set up all star teammates and still learn how to score surrounded by tons of guys used to having the ball in their hands, and all of this being taught to him by a coach he loves and respects.

Coach K doing Cleveland a HUGE favor this summer. Kyrie basically getting two training camps for the same kind of team.

But that's because he isn't lol.

I don't even think favoritism played a role in him not making the 1st cut. A strength of USA basketball in international play has always been our outside shooting. We jack a lot of 3s and we make a lot of 3s. We exploit the fact that the 3 point line is closer to the basket than it is in the NBA, and by putting guys that excel at hitting that outside shot on the floor it allows us to cover up for our "weakness" in the frontcourt by creating floor spacing and lanes for our guards to penetrate.

Long story short, John has no one to blame but himself. Did the coaches probably not anticipate him making the roster when they invited him? Yeah, I could see that. But that's just because he's essentially a PG that shrinks the floor offensively. He's the anti-thesis of a USA Olympic guard.

I say all this as a John Wall fan too. I like him a lot on and off the court but I don't like how he came across in that interview. He's acting like he didn't get a fair shake to make the team when in actuality he did. He just wasn't good enough in the end.

You may be right in saying Coach K probably knew ahead of time he wouldn't make the team but that's more an indictment on John's game than it is favoritism as Wall implied.

Wall's best chance to make Team USA is by watching tape of Westbrook from UCLA and international play. If he could play that athletic, energy, combo guard spot like Russ does he'd have a shot.

The USA is playing Brazil on saturday on ESPN at 9pm. No Boogie Cousins(doubtful, knee injury) and plenty of Varejao :yay:
