Terrance West - Traded to Titans

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, those selections are looking to be as bad as the Weeden and Richardson picks.

That's just a terrible draft. If you're going to bomb on one, at least hit on the other.

I don't have any confidence in Gilbert being good. I never had any confidence in Manziel.

You can at least kind of forgive them with Gilbert, as he was ranked high at his position and seems to have the talent to succeed, just not the work ethic or brain. Sometimes you are going to miss on guys like that, but it shouldn't discourage you from trying.

Manziel is the pick that really stings because Bridgewater was not only available, but reportedly the guy we paid people to tell us was the best QB in the draft.

That might be true. At the time, I didn't really hate the Gilbert pick to be fair. But either way, you can't justify having two first round picks and failing on them both badly.

Sometimes you miss on first rounders, everyone does it. But missing on two in one draft is a fail to me.

West has the talent, it's all there. He's just lazy. Was never going to hit his ceiling here. Frustrating because I think he can become very, very good in the NFL.

Looks like its Duke's and Crow's job to split at least 25 carries per game, I'd like it to be in the upper 30's considering the power of our line.

Crow may be in line for a big fantasy year if Duke gets banged up or has rookie mistakes.

Count me on the list of people who are extremely skeptical of Farmer.

Of course he hit on a few picks. Every GM does. But his misses have just been atrocious. Seriously, did they even interview any of the guys from last draft? Either Gilbert has the world's best poker face or we really didn't dig deep enough on him. Bitonio was a great pick, but Kirksey is a TBD imo. We can't count that as a hit yet. Regardless of who you think made the pick, Farmer will always be known as the GM who took Johnny Manziel with Teddy Bridgewater on the board. If Ray really signed off on that (which from his own words he did) then that is enough to be fired. Now trading West for a conditional 7th. We sure do give up on players fast...

Good hits on UDFA, but to be fair Crowell has always been ultra talented. We have just been lucky the character concerns have proved false so far.

I give them credit for cutting Mayle because he is hot garbage, but seriously why in the love of hell was he ever taken. Because at the time of the draft he looked like a worse Greg Little. If you really like WRs that can't get seperation and drop everything that come their way that much then fine. Take them in the 7th. Or sign Greg Little. But we took a guy who can't catch in the 4th.

The Bowe signing was a lolapalooza.

I know everyone wants to talk themselves into the guy to feel better about the future, but I really haven't seen much to inspire confidence with Farmer. I want to believe

I just don't right now.

Doesn't it concern you that the bolded text applies to THREE of the guys we got in the first 4 picks from last years drafts. And also didn't just pick them, the front office felt so strongly about all 3 guys that they traded up for all 3. None of them are starting this year. Two were first rounders...

Any word on what the conditions of the pick are? The price was too high for the Cowboys, who just traded a 7th for someone else. So either the price lowered or the conditions must be something of value.

Farmer has been just an utterly horrible GM thus far. From his draft picks to the texting scandal which suspends him for the first four games, he's just awful.

Just because you hit on a few picks doesn't mean you're a good GM. Scouting and the ability to keep the higher ups respect your opinion goes a long way. To say he may or may not have chose Johnny Manziel speaks even louder about him as a GM.

This team as assembled looks to be about 4-7 win team if that. Just an awful job by him to pull the trigger on what seems to be complete bust first rounders.

His grade thus far is a D- and veering closer to an F+ with him trying to control the sidelines from box seats. If the last 15 or so years are any indication, his time here is about par for the course for the optimists and below average for the realists. We're down to 2 QB's, whom, both have the potential to get hurt while at the same time cutting a receiver in Lenz whom may not light the world on fire but is much more experienced at the wide out position than Pryor. Pryor is also not a viable quarterback option in this league which leaves this decision highly questionable at best.

We're in for another fun filled year.

Some of Farmer's biggest misses haven't been mentioned:

1. Treating many of Norv Turner's project players like they should have one foot out the door. Charles Johnson stands out as the poster child for Farmer's short-comings assessing and cultivating the ability he inherited.

2. Some big swings and misses in free agency, namely Ben Tate and McQuistan.

I have had concerns about Farmer from the hiring, and it seemed his inexperience was an excuse for Haslam to have more say in personnel.

Well I really hope more and more people are getting ready to hop on Duke Johnson's wild ride. Because it looks like the Browns are.

It's really hard to give him any grades, given he's going into his second season as a GM.

He definitely didn't start off well with his first round selections last year. Those were bad picks.. But there's no way to describe him as a GM just yet.

That said, I don't know how confident I am in him either. I think he did do pretty well this draft though. The jury is still out there. But I at least came away with the opinion he might not be a lost cause just yet.

But we will see. He doesn't really deserve any praise, or a world of criticism just yet.

If we're still in the same place we are three years from now, then yes, he's been bad.

I still think he only missed on one 1st round and Haslam missed on the other. I cant believe he picks Manziel if Haslam doesn't get involved.

Keeping only two QBs and not keeping Josh Lenz are pretty terrible reasons for calling your GM terrible.

Lenz probably sticks on the squad, lots of teams keep just two QBs.

Saying "have the potential to get hurt" is pretty much a no-shit statement in a sport where someone needs medical attention after every three plays.

I agree, that's why I don't totally blame him alone. I think we in general just failed in the first round. I don't think Manziel was his call, I think that was Haslam.

It looks like he missed on Gilbert. I mean shit, it does happen, teams draft busts in the first round. I won't kill a GM for drafting one. If he makes a habit of it, then that's different.

It's just really impossible to give him any grade at all right now. I think he drafted some good football players this year. Not buying he's completely incompetent just yet.

I swear I read somewhere that Gilbert was Pettine guy/scheme pick, Pettine likes the bigger CBs and utilizes the man up press. So I'm giving Farmer a pass on Gilbert/Johnny. Not so on West or Mayor, but he made up with Crowell at least. Still he basically threw a 4th round pick away, he was probably reading all the bullshit fan comments about not taking a WR and said here you go fuckers haha, Vince Mayle but most importantly, WR. Either way I give them this year to make progress which is probably 8-8. Joe Thomas and Joe Haden may have an entire career of losing, and new regimes.

But if Pettine goes 1-2 in the first 3 games then he's on the hot seat IMO.

Don't agree. You cant over rule the owner, so Manziel is on Haslam, but in the end the GM can say no to the coach, so Gilbert is 100% on Farmer. It happens, I don't hate farmer, he still has a chance to prove himself. We will see.
