Terrance West - Traded to Titans

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't agree. You cant over rule the owner, so Manziel is on Haslam, but in the end the GM can say no to the coach, so Gilbert is 100% on Farmer. It happens, I don't hate farmer, he still has a chance to prove himself. We will see.

Exactly. A coach isn't going to over rule the GM, unless he's someone like Belichick that's also the president of players operations. Pettine doesn't have that kind of power.

It's one thing to draft a guy that's going to fit your coach's scheme. But if he sucks, who gives a fuck. Farmer must have been okay with Gilbert. So that's on him.

Unless Haslam stepped in and over ruled. I doubt that. Haslam probably didn't know enough about him to make an opinion on the pick.

Manziel was clearly a 'fan pick' that Haslam made to appease Cleveland football fans. One I doubt very few in the organization really wanted.

I swear I read somewhere that Gilbert was Pettine guy/scheme pick, Pettine likes the bigger CBs and utilizes the man up press. So I'm giving Farmer a pass on Gilbert/Johnny. Not so on West or Mayor, but he made up with Crowell at least. Still he basically threw a 4th round pick away, he was probably reading all the bullshit fan comments about not taking a WR and said here you go fuckers haha, Vince Mayle but most importantly, WR. Either way I give them this year to make progress which is probably 8-8. Joe Thomas and Joe Haden may have an entire career of losing, and new regimes.

But if Pettine goes 1-2 in the first 3 games then he's on the hot seat IMO.

:doh (1):

There will be no progress this year. The Browns will be lucky to win 4 games. Josh McCown is the QB. If he gets hurt, Johnny Manziel is the QB.

McCown was brought in to tank.

That will be progress in the tank bank.

Sadly, I don't think it's happening. I think they win between 5-8. I could see 8 winning the division too. I think this division stinks and is going to get exposed this year.

But I think it'd be better if the Browns win just 4 games. Because I don't think our offense is close to being ready to be a legit team yet.

We might make progress but still have less losses this year. I just hope the defense continues to improve. The offense is going to be shit this year though.

Yeah, the offense will be terrible.

I can't see this team winning 5-8, I don't think McCown has it in him. The team won't score enough and the D will be exhausted every 4th quarter from being on the field too much.

Tank for Cardale. Get the QB.

It depends on how capable our running attack is. I don't seriously see us winning the division. I just think the division is bad. Which is why I have a hard time seeing us winning just 4 games.

I think we are a 6 win team. They just don't have enough on offense, and I think this OC is going to be potential nightmare.

On a scale of 1-10, I give Farmer a grade of: Cleveland.

Can we let the stable of players from the past two drafts have an opportunity to develop before we call our GM "terrible?"

Some of Farmer's biggest misses haven't been mentioned:

1. Treating many of Norv Turner's project players like they should have one foot out the door. Charles Johnson stands out as the poster child for Farmer's short-comings assessing and cultivating the ability he inherited.

2. Some big swings and misses in free agency, namely Ben Tate and McQuistan.

I have had concerns about Farmer from the hiring, and it seemed his inexperience was an excuse for Haslam to have more say in personnel.
A lot of this is unfair and extremely generalized.

1. Charles Johnson? Guy was a practice squad player and couldn't make the team - a decision originally made by Chud in 2013 and the coaching staff (Turner). They seemed plenty comfortable letting him go. He was also cut by the almighty Packers. And even still, he caught 31 balls last year... He's far from a sensation.

2. You mention Tate - who was on a 2 million dollar contract. Guy came dirt cheap and the contract structure allowed us to dump him like the trash he was. You fail to mention Whitner, Dansby, Miles Austin, and Hawkins.
