The 2015 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dude...c'mon.

But in all seriousness, lightning pretty much needs to strike for this team to be watchable, and a meteor needs to strike for them to contend. It's just too aggravating to be enjoyable, and this is from someone who actually enjoys the sport of baseball.

Still going to a game in August with my cousins...they're from Cali but die hard Indians fans...no idea why...

They were garbage before the mid 90s surge. Endless, endless years of horrible baseball, before they went on their terror (even without any titles to show for).

I've seen it happen to believe it will happen again. And it's not like our front office has been a 100 percent disaster.

This isn't the Browns, at least for me, where they've showed me nothing in my lifetime to have any serious hope until proven.

Shapiro has had control over the front office for 14 seasons. In that time the Tribe is 59 games under 500. Out of those 14 seasons there is a total of two playoff appearences and six playoff wins. They have finished at or below .500 9 times and 10 if this year plays out. In 14 years they have had only three seasons where they finished 20 games or better over .500. No trips to the World Series and one to the AlCS. Now if you are happy and content with those results then God Bless you.

MARK SHAPIRO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ON-FIELD PRODUCT ANYMORE.

I'm not living off the 90s anymore. What a total and utter perfect storm. It was two decades ago. What have they shown me since I've been old enough to appreciate sports fully? Maybe a little bit more than the Browns. The Browns happen to play in a league where one draft pick can turn your franchise around (much like the Cavs). The Indians do not. In their market it will take years and years of good, smart moves to even have hopes for contending a year here and a year there.

It's not entirely their fault, but naturally some of the blame does have to go their way.

Just have so little hope. There are definitely some core players on this team. Pitching staff has some bright spots, and Kipnis/Brantley are keepers. It's just not anywhere close to enough though.

They gotta find a good hitter, somehow someway. Couple hitters, actually. The Tribe will never sign a real good hitter from another team in Free Agency, lets be honest. So that leaves draft and trade deadline.

I mean the Tribe aren't completely hopeless. This isn't a Browns situation where they are stuck with no QB forever. It should be much easier to acquire some goddamn hitting.

In all honesty, we are extremely thankful for LeBron James and tOSU.

I don't ever expect what happen in the '90s to happen again, literally, either.

I was just pointing out they were pretty hopeless before then, too. I agree, perfect storm.

But I am not literally hopeless, in them getting it together, and making a run. Will it happen this year, or next year, of the one after that? Probably not.

Baseball is a funny, you can get good fast.

If two and three good every day players blossom on us, it changes things fast.

Things always feel at its worst when it goes bad, like it will never get better.

I do like they build a lot on strong pitching, because that's what you need to go the distance in baseball.

They just need to start hitting on some of their every day players. It's not even just offensively, some of these guys are just bad two-way players in general.

I don't know who some of their scouts are, but they need to go. They're finding some absolute shit.

Look at the Red Sox. Fired Francona after 2011.
In 2012 they were garbage.
2013 they win the World Series.
2014 and 2015 they are garbage again.

Things can change very quickly in baseball.

Since I got the classic "disagree"

From an article about Shapiro being named President:

"Cleveland's front-office transition has actually been evolving over the past few seasons with Antonetti taking a more prominent role in the club's day-to-day operations, and Shapiro gradually branching into the business side of running the ballclub."

And this one straight from Shapiro:

"My transition from General Manager to Team President has been extremely educational and has given me a more global perspective on the business of Major League Baseball. After spending nearly 20 years on the baseball side of the industry, learning more about the business side and the interactions with the commissioner’s office has given me a new understanding of the game. I have enjoyed learning about what motivates our fans and how to deliver experiences that connect our fans to the Indians organization."

Now, I understand that Mark and Chris are friends, and surely Mark offers an opinion here and there, but his job is now the BUSINESS SIDE of the team. Chris Antonetti is in charge of free agent signings, trades, and draft picks.

Damn Cubans even ruining minor league baseball...
