The 2015 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm getting a Sirius free preview and the other day on MLB Radio Jim Bowden mentioned a Bourn for Gattis deal with the Braves. Thoughts?

Is Bowden stealing from fake twitter accounts again?

Depends if you'd be comfortable with Gattis in LF. I definitely like his bat.

Split time with Gattis and Swisher at DH/OF? That would be an awesome return for Bourn's contract.

I'd honestly do it (assuming it's a legit possibility). Gattis isn't eligble for arbitration until 2016 and is under team control through 2019. They'd basically clear Bourn's contract and grab a guy with a decent bat that can play C, 1B, and LF.

Don't see the logic behind it for Atlanta. Not even sure Bourn is an upgrade over Bonifacio, and if he is, it's a small one at an expensive rate.

I also imagine the Indians would take just about anyone to clear Bourn off the books.

Buster Olney noted that the Braves really liked Bourn when he was there. Not disagreeing with you here, just pointing out that note.

He passed Kip. He's at 1.0 now (that was before today's game)

So... Carlos Carrasco. Is the head finally on straight? I get such a Fausto vibe from him, I am obviously thriled at the way he is pitching and the Tribe needs to ride that as long as it occurs. But he is in the spot he is because he- or rather his mental makeup- has been what has kept him back. Can we trust this? Does the Tribe? Cautiously optimistic this team's Nuke LaLoosh has finally gotten it.

He has done this before, really only time will tell if he has finally gotten his head back on straight. Overall, I have been very happy with how this rotation is shaping up.

I'm not sure he's ever done this. He's had flashes here and there, but he's never strung together a series of starts this dominant before.

Permanently pitching out of the stretch has done wonders for him. Really simplified his mechanics, which seems to have fixed his command.

Question for the regulars on the board:

How do we go about acquiring a #2 starter for 2015 and who are the possible targets via FA or trade?

I love how Calloway pitching staffs seem to get better as the season goes on, especially with so many youngsters in the rotation.

I assume we go into next year with Kluber as our #1 starter. Ideally, even with all the recent progress, Salazar, Bauer, and Carrasco are 3-4-5. Then McCallister/House/Tomlin are cheap and kept around for depth at AAA to cover any injuries or used in trades. That entire grouping of 7 starting pitchers won't make 8 million between them. HOw and who do we invest in that can perform at the level that Salazar, Bauer, and Carrasco are of lat, but with the steadiness and reliability that we're not sure we can count on permanently from those three yet?

Is there money Dolan is willing to spend next year on top of the existing 2015 payroll or do we have to move a salary like Swisher/Bourn/Murphy to bring in a quality, reliable #2 starter?

Or am I just misjudging how an organization like ours needs to be run and we'd be better off rolling with all the young guys in the SP mix and spending money elsewhere/if at all?

It seems like the young talent is there and in place for us to have an even better 2015 with a little additional spending. Are we better off:

A: spending big for a FA pitcher
B: trying to acquire a pitcher by trade who is 2-3 years off of FA from a reloading, cheaper team like we did with Ubaldo a few years back
C: trying to shift a bad contract for a bad contract and getting a guy like Ubaldo back to see if he can restart things under Calloway(though obviously I wouldnt consider that acquiring a reliable #2 pitcher)

Also, how do we create room for Ramirez, Lindor, Chisenhall, and Kipnis all in next years starting lineup?
