Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Do you think the carpet matches the drapes....drapes in this case being the beard?
If he is going to keep a beard this long it will definitely look way better if he goes for more volume up top in my opinion. He definitely needs the side of his hair trimmed up a bit which can give the hair up top a boost.

Lessons from TyGuy on beards.

But I agree, gentleman, long beards only look good if you keep a haircut tight every 2 weeks, or else you look like a homeless man.

And don't be like this guy and brush your beard in towards his face lol. You need to push that shit forward.

Haha. I push the limit to about 3 weeks, but that’s only because of my work schedule and my Barbers hours.
Otherwise, 100% agree.

Grizzly face and sharp up top is a good contrast

I guess I just have too much old school hippie in me, I only grow it out during the winter and other than getting the customary burns even with the rest of the beard at some point nothing gets trimmed til it's done.

Embarrassing but true side note of dedication to this I went my last five months of college without shaving (sans neck) or getting a haircut

after a lot of back and forth I decide i would actually recap how I felt about Baker's first year. As an oklahoma fan who watch Baker a lot, I made it very clear my opinion of him before the draft was that he just wouldnt be able to handle "Cleveland", that was why i didnt want him on the Browns. Having never underestimated him up until that point, i believe i will count that as a lesson learned.

So my thoughts on this year: He was record setting good. I think it was a forced record by the team, but he still was a fantastic QB, and whether he was record setting good or just fantastic isnt the point. Quite frankly I dont think he was even playing at 85% of his capability. While at OU you watch a QB that ultimately just had a feel for the game that was unparalleled. He knew what was coming, he knew what to expect, he knew how to counter it, and it was all 2nd nature to him. There is a reason he won the Heisman and finished in the top 3 another couple of times.

Having attended the Ravens game ill focus on that first. i felt like I watched a QB that was still very much learning and thinking and processing. You could see him actually trying to absorb instead of just "knowing". His pure talent allowed him to keep the team in the game with a lot of sideline throws, but it was clear he wasnt ready to attack everywhere. Now that said, he was playing an all world defense that a lot of QBs couldnt even begin to handle, so that alone puts him into my top 10 QB list. However I think as the final game of the year it was a great lesson for him that he isnt there yet and needs to keep pushing.

That said Ill go back to the 85% i threw out earlier. The one thing I always felt about Baker was that he could make a pre-snap read and just know what to expect. At OU he made quick decisions and got the ball out fast. For the browns, especially earlier in the season i felt like he just wasnt make those fast decisions. There was too much processing and too much thinking. As the season wore on not only did Freddie step up and make life easier, i felt like Baker started to get up to game speed a bit better. But ultimately he wasnt playing to his full capability.

I think if you break down his final 8 games you begin to see what he is capable of. In those final 8 he put up 19 TDs, 8 INTs, 2250+ yards (280+ a game), and 68% completion. Stretched over a season those are easy top 3-5 QB numbers, but ultimately i expect better. Where i really think he will grow is completion percentage and interceptions. His final 2 years at OU he was right at 70% percent completion, and single digit interceptions.

For next year, with a year under his belt i fully expect he is a top 5 MVP candidate. Its ridiculous im saying this but i expect 35+ TDs, 4000+ yards, 70% completion, and less than 10 INTs. Expect, as in bare minimum. He has a ton of great traits but ultimately i go back to the accuracy. He is a Drew Brees like when it comes to that. He just has a given talent to know where to place the football. Couple that with a strong arm, and a great leadership he can be a legend in this city for a long time to come.
