The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To be absolutely fair to Brandon Weeden; He didn't "win" this game for us, but he came in down 0-10 and made sure we, at the very least, didn't lose. So that was nice to see, I guess.

But in all honesty; This team is stuck. We've got great game plans, great play callers, and absolutely stout defense. We have an offense capable of making huge strides, but the offense is like a sports car. It's a manual transmission, and Brandon Weeden can't drive stick. Stuck in first gear, stuck revving. His standing, and waiting, and lack of pocket presence is disgusting, and it'll ultimately cost us a run at the division. And the worst part is? We literally can't substitute anyone who can drive stick, and let our offense take advantage of really good D/ST units.

If they keep this up, they'll likely finish give or take a game or two around 8-8. That'll usually have you drafting close to 20. Colts pick should be around 23-24 if they keep it up.

I'd think two 20-ish picks might get you in the top 15? Not sure what kind of QB talent will be available there.

Might be stuck with Hoyer next year.

Stuck is such an awful word. The guy played great.

Aaron Rodgers - 24th overall pick

Tom Brady - 199 over pick, 6th round

Drew Brees - 2nd round, 32 pick

Russell Wilson - 3rd round, 75th pick

Colin Kaepernick - 2nd round, 36th pick

Joe Flacco - 1st round, 18th pick

Brett Favre - 2nd round, 33 pick.

Ben Roethlisberger - 1st round, 11th pick

I am just going on recent QB's that have played, and are either great, or are considered franchise QB's by their teams. And one's that have won Super Bowl's.

Top-5 caliber franchise/great QB's.

RG3
Luck
Peyton
Eli
Matt Ryan
Philip Rivers

Is there anymore?

It seems to me you can find pretty good QB's anywhere in the draft. Its such a hard position to really evaluate.

I don't even have to go through the very LONG list of busts at the top of draft, I'm sure.

If we're drafting in the mid first, we should have the ability to draft Tahj Boyd.

He did play well for sure. I'm not necessarily saying he's a bad option, just that there's probably nothing better at that range in the draft. But QB's often surprise.

I know this chart is not exact anymore, but 20 + 24 plus an early 4th would actually move us into the top 5. So we have options.

I'm mostly on board with this ANALogy, but I'd say that Weeden can drive stick, but very poorly. He's always grinding the gears, stalling the car out, etc., but if he can get it into top gear (like the bombs to Little and Gordon last night), he can at least get from point A to point B sometimes. Either way, you're not hiring him to be your personal driver.

Also, I'm not sure we're a sports car. Maybe more of a Honda Accord V-6 or an Audi A4 Turbo.

Good lord. What a deflating WIN. Haha.

Why?

Abandons mechanics under pressure, struggles with short accuracy at times.

I like him as a developmental guy, but not as a top tier QB quite yet.

Still growing though, lots of year left to develop.

Take the college QB talk to the appropriate thread..

That's the type of guy I wouldn't mind in the 20s, though. I wouldn't pin him as a "god no" kind of guy.

EDIT: Never saw above ^^^^

Take Flacco off that list. He played good for 4 games one stretch in his life. I dont see it every happening again.

im going to throw this one out. if weeden could extrapolate what he did in the final 3 quarters last night to a full game, would anyone really be that upset? he had 4 drives that scored points, 2 that were touchdowns, and another that should have been a 3rd if it wasnt for shit ass play calling. Is he ever going to be a top 5 quarterback, absolutely no way, but with this defense 25 points a game is going to win a more than it loses.
