The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Take Flacco off that list. He played good for 4 games one stretch in his life. I dont see it every happening again.

I was just going on a list of what teams consider as their franchise QB. I don't like Flacco either, but Baltimore and Ozzie Newsome seem to. Otherwise they wouldn't have given him that ridiculous contract.

I'm just simply pointing out everyone insists that to get a franchise QB, we absolutely MUST have a top-5 pick. I'm clearly just showing its been anything but that black and white when it comes to selecting a QB. Sure, having a top-5 pick seems like its more likely. But as you can see selecting a QB is not that easy. You need a little luck on your side.

There's not going to be an Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning in every draft. Those guys are a rarity to find period.

I dont think top 5 makes it more likely, i actually think it is about 50/50 with top 5 and not top 5.

So I 100% agree with you. I dont even want to trade up. Rather see which of about 5 qb's fall to use and use the other 1st pick to take a solid corner/rb/OL

It depends on the situation, and what the Browns think. If they REALLY like a certain guy a lot, then I have no problem if they move up to get their QB. I don't think its a must, but it depends where we are, and who we like. If they have to move up to get a QB they like, I'm good with that.

Whoever is the QB, I just hope once and for all he is a franchise guy. I think the main thing is the Browns are FINALLY developing somewhat of a system, that's going to make the transition much easier for the next guy to step in and play the position. They still need to shore up the line a bit, and get solid running game going. But the good news is we're finally becoming a team that has a system set in place, where a QB can come in and have a chance.

We've definitely have had some bad QB's over the years, but I don't care what anyone says. It definitely helps a lot when you have a young QB come to a team, that has something to work with. Something that will help him develop into something.

Some players we've missed over the years, I'm pretty confident they wouldn't have had the same careers if they ended up here instead. Not suggesting they'd be been bad, but probably not the players they've turn into.

You need a stable coaching staff, and some talent for a young QB to make the growing pains a little easier.

So now a day later, I'm actually more down about Hoyer's injury. I made the effort to see Browns games. I paid the tab at a joint with satellite.

Now, I'm just kind of deflated. I think I've seen my last Clowns game this year. I'm that disinterested in Weeden.

The post below brings up a great point. I still think we have to be somewhat fair. If anyone caught his postgame talk with the NFL Network, Weeden said that he "needs to get rid of the ball quicker" and understands what his issues were. Also said that Hoyer has taught him a lot. 10 days until the next game (they actually practiced today, or were supposed to according to Chud's postgame speech (Alex Mack was laughing in the background)) might give Weeden enough time to shake the rust off (Gordon said he was rusty and laughed about it) and possibly get some really good work in with Norv and Hoyer. I will not count Hoyer out as an asset, he learned from the best and hopefully can teach a few techniques to Weeden.

I mean was any QB there to teach him last year? I'll give him a chance here.

Sorry for all the parentheses.

im going to throw this one out. if weeden could extrapolate what he did in the final 3 quarters last night to a full game, would anyone really be that upset? he had 4 drives that scored points, 2 that were touchdowns, and another that should have been a 3rd if it wasnt for shit ass play calling. Is he ever going to be a top 5 quarterback, absolutely no way, but with this defense 25 points a game is going to win a more than it loses.

It is so deflating.

After the Indians loss, tell me, "The Browns will win! ...but you will be so sad in the process." I wouldn't have known how to take it.

It's been so long since I was literally on the edge of my seat for a Brown games. The excited all but left within minutes of the game.

I'm happy we won, it was still a fun game. But all the hope and excitement going forward this year seems lost.

I'm sorry, I have no faith and confidence in Weeden. He might be a nice guy, says all the right things, and I admire that he did withstand a pretty brutal position he was asked to be in, coming in the game where he clearly wasn't welcomed. But none of that takes away his shortcomings for me in what is needed to be a quality QB in the NFL.

I can honestly say even when he plays well(and he did last night) it still leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. I still come away very unimpressed with his ability to play the position. I just really, really want to cut ties with him for good after the year. I never want to see him take another snap under center on this team again.

A little harsh on a team that's 3-2 and on top of the AFC North..

Weeden stinks. He is our backup for a reason. We are drafting a QB next year, so we only have to see him for 11 more games.

Tough break, especially with our garbage division. The thought of 2014 with Ben Tate, Hoyer, 5 picks in the first 3 rounds.... Very exciting. Hope we don't lose Horton.

Let's hope we can even sign Tate... Different topic for a different day, though.

Anyone else find it funny how villainized Lombardi was on day 1, how overlooked and poked at the move to get Hoyer was...

And now we are begging to have him back?

Lombardi has had a very good first six months. The whole FO seems to know what they are doing.

It's called being a realist. Does anyone seriously think this 3-2 team, that lost their QB, is making the playoffs?

We are tired of sucking all these years, only to be teased a little. It's deflating, we've seen this script one too many times.

Unless you've been a fan 5 minutes ago, this is typical fashion of what its like being a Browns fan.

We're not paranoid in thinking something will also go wrong. Something always DOES go wrong!

100 times out of 100 they let you down!

The Browns next opponents are
Detroit Home
Green Bay Away
KC Away
Baltimore Home
Cincy Away
Steelers Home

I'm thinking we are going to win 2 of the next 6 games. Not sure which will be wins but that will put us at 5-6. All the division games will have been played except for 1. If we come out of that brutal stretch with 4 wins then we are in a good position for the division. 3 wins, depending on who we beat, could keep us alive. Anything less and we are playing for pride.

I'm still just completely devastated. Haven't been this depressed about a sports injury in a while. I was so excited for that game on Thursday, the injury happened right in front of me and I knew he was done. I was positive Hoyer was our long term answer at QB. People I know associated with the team were saying the same thing. We had found a diamond in the rough. A player who was groomed and developed under one of the greatest coaches and QB's of all time. He's cerebral, he knows how to lead, he exudes confidence...the players love him. Hoyer was ready...then it all came to end a few plays into his coming out party on national TV. I wanted to throw up when it happened. I still want to throw up. Fucking Cleveland...
