The Coffee Shoppe Talk

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No I haven't, although I have probably done so to make sure it's not sliding around. I don't know what added benefit that would give you?

Only thing I've heard is getting rid of any potential flavor from the filter.

By the way - my keurig only goes up to 192 degrees F. Another 10 degrees hotter would go a long way in bringing out the clarity of the beans. Although, I have read that it's often several months old roasted/ground coffee once you get the kcups and the grind size is very sporadic even amongst the same manufacturer.

@Frank Reynolds

I'd like to give freshly roasted beans a go. I'll keep an eye out for an air popper at a garage sale. However, I cannot see doing this at home on a daily basis. No way.

The whole concept of Keurig coffee makers puzzled me.

"So Shark Tank, I have an invention. You buy cheaply made plastic cups and pour boiling water through it to make coffee that tastes worse than a Mr. Coffee. Why do we put the coffee in cheap plastic cups? I'm glad you asked, we want to get more of the carcinogens from hot plastic into people's bodies. That and we can charge three times as much for the coffee in the little cancer cups. The machine itself? I'm glad you asked: It will be twice as expensive as a Mr. Coffee maker and its cancer-free paper filters. So in closing: Tastes worse, more expensive, cancer."

Keurig has sold millions of machines and billions of cups (*unsourced guess). I find it fascinating because I never thought that it would get so popular. I have used the refillable cartridge for years, and I always try to understand why I miss certain trends (read: stock picks), so here's the argument for it:
-It's cheaper than coffee at a barista.
-It's fresh every cup (this could be untrue but the branding has worked on me): those pods are sealed so the coffee doesn't oxidize.
-It's fresh every cup b/c unlike a pot of coffee, you make it a portion at a time whereas a pot sits there and gets cooked more and more.
-It's not messy (this is a big one for our generation for some reason).
-It's lightening fast (this is clearly a huge plus for our generation of consumers).

Most people don't take most things to their purest/best form, because of the utility of the economics of it all (cost/convenience/anxiety/expertise, whatever). Coffee is no exception. So what happens next? I couldn't tell you, but I can't wait for my v60.

I had a cup of coffee from one of those vending machines while I was at the hospital visiting a family member recently - absolutely the worst cup of joe I've ever had.

Coffee beans? Whole? Pre-ground?
A medium roast? Double French Roast? Espresso? Other roasts?
Kenya AA, Columbian, Costa Rican, whatever is on sale?
Brands?
Does any of it matter for you?

Not picky on bean type, but will go for the darker roasts. I get my 3lbs bags at Costco, so am limited by the choices available.

Edit: Weird how coffee ads are showing up now on this page for me.

Always best to use whole beans and grind right before brewing.

I like trying different kinds so I generally don't use one brand/flavor/roast for longer than a month or so, but I do like a more pronounced/bold coffee.

They have this stuff at the grocery store.. Starbucks machiatto whatever. iced.
I get a lot of it for five bucks, don't spend a second making it, and it tastes good and I don't make a big deal about it.

Charlatans.

I am nowhere NEAR anything resembling a cliche other than probably looking pedestrianly white-like just as you might be considered pedestrianly orange county douche-like.

@Man Called X might want to notify the walmart authorities.
