The Connor Shaw thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Were you trying to set us up while holding back this story? :chuckle:

I think the issue here is that Kelly recruited him as a college QB. That doesn't mean he likes him as one in the NFL.

Hope I'm wrong and he's short-sighted enough to want him! I'd take Foles over him all day.

I think you're spot on here. Excerpts from a recent article of Chip Kelly responding to rumors that he would leave Philadelphia for the Florida Gators:

"I'm just not a candidate for a college job," Kelly said Thursday. "I don't think our pro offense will work at the college level."

I thought the Kelly/Manziel thing was common knowledge. Manziel seems like a tailor made fit for kelly's offense. That's why I brought it up.

Can you name 3 teams that have better weapons than the Bears...and Cutler shit the bed with them. How do you think he would do with a massive downgrade at every single position on the Browns?

Cutler is a loser, an asshole and the worst leader in the NFL. He's arguably the least liked QB in the NFL too. Hell, I'd rather cut bait with Johnny to eliminate the circus, sign Hoyer for 3 years at $10M a year and fill our other holes until a long term answer comes along. All these blown first rounders have set us back 5 years.

Cutler is the 2nd coming of Jegg George, no thank you.

#2 trending topic on Twitter currently; Connor Shaw.

So what are the odds we trade Manziel to Philly and he becomes a Hall of Famer playing for Chip Kelly? You just know that's going to happen. :chuckle:

This thought just popped into my head:

Doesn't Connor Shaw being on our roster indicate that the "Johnny was forced on Farmer" narrative is completely false?

I don't think Jimmy is picking our developmental QB, so the fact that he is very similar in style and skill-set to Johnny should tell us that Farmer likes this kind of QB.

If our third QB was a 6-5, pocket guy I could totally buy into that narrative, but that's not the case obviously.

it wasnt like they used a draft pick on the kid. To me its more like they wanted someone that could run manziels offense if need be. they looked at the rookie market, who was left, and decided on shaw. If shaw was a high draft pick, i could see your point. but as a UDFA.... shrugs

Shaw fits within the offense that we are trying to run. Not only that, he was one of the best UDFA quarterbacks available, as the poster above said.

Yea I don't buy the thought that Farmer, the scouts and the coaching staff were ready to go in 1 direction then Haslam came swooping in to override everything they've done in order to take Manziel. I think the most likely scenario is that scouts & coaches were split about Manziel and there was some disagreement in the room. Ultimately, I think Farmer liked Manziel enough combined with Haslam really liking Manziel made it an easy pick for him.

The only problem I have with this theory is that it means this entire board save a small handful of people are better at picking QB's than our GM.

Yea I agree, neither scenario is 'good'
