Sign him cheap. He would be an alley oop machine with Kyrie.
And we all know alley oops = wins, right?

You're exactly right. It was Riley who prevented the Amare trade. He was the one who saw that this trade could foil the collusion (aka The Decision), so he was constantly in Kerr's ear making up lies and convincing him that he could come up with a better trade package than the Cavs.
Hickson could help drive the tank.

I had always heard it was Sarver who killed the deal. Kerr got the deal to a pont where both sides agreed to the terms, and then Sarver couldn't pull the trigger at the end. He wanted one more playoff run with Nash and Amare. I don't recall where I saw it specifically. But it seems more plausible than the conspiracy angle, but admittedly not as fun either.

Umm, his fans were going to revolt and string him up if he wrecked a playoff run for JJ Hickson, perhaps a crappy 1st round pick or two, and money.
That was surely part of it, too. But I think they knew Amare was gone at the end of the season, so the thinking was to get something in return, even if it was bird shyt.
I highly doubt Sarver or any GM is concerned about "fan backlash" when making a big time business decision on the future of their NBA franchise.
