The decline of JJ Hickson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You're exactly right. It was Riley who prevented the Amare trade. He was the one who saw that this trade could foil the collusion (aka The Decision), so he was constantly in Kerr's ear making up lies and convincing him that he could come up with a better trade package than the Cavs.

I had always heard it was Sarver who killed the deal. Kerr got the deal to a pont where both sides agreed to the terms, and then Sarver couldn't pull the trigger at the end. He wanted one more playoff run with Nash and Amare. I don't recall where I saw it specifically. But it seems more plausible than the conspiracy angle, but admittedly not as fun either.

Byron seems to hate guys with low bbIQ. Hickson absolutely qualifies. He is a lot like Hollins in that he has the tools and just can't work hard enough to memorize the play book and be in the correct position. That's why he like Boobie. As much as Boobie lacks in athleticism and height, he is at least doing the right things out there. That is why he gets minutes.

I remember that now. It turned out to be a good move on Sarver's part. I remember them making a good run that year.

Umm, his fans were going to revolt and string him up if he wrecked a playoff run for JJ Hickson, perhaps a crappy 1st round pick or two, and money.

That was surely part of it, too. But I think they knew Amare was gone at the end of the season, so the thinking was to get something in return, even if it was bird shyt.

They knew Sarver didn't intend to max out Amare, and somebody else surely would; but that didn't mean they were willing to settle for crap let alone our crap.

I tried to talk up Hickson on the RealGM Suns trade deadline thread just to get a feel for how he was perceived by other fans, and had little success. If Sarver pulled the trigger, he was heading for a fan backlash that would make what just happened in Golden State look like a Bar Mitzvah.

I highly doubt Sarver or any GM is concerned about "fan backlash" when making a big time business decision on the future of their NBA franchise.

Which is why Phoenix still holds on to Nash instead of trading him for picks/young talent to a contender?
