The Dog Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can't believe Doc named his dog after a lame character on the shittiest show on television.

I actually regret it now but it's too late to change it. I don't watch it anymore because, A) It sucks now and B) I mostly watched it as a reason to hook up with a chick who loved it in college. We watched it in my bed on my iMac. It was basically shooting fish in a barrel.

I will admit that I felt a certain kinship with the character though. Originally I was going to name him Chewbacca (Chewy) but I was convinced by my sister not to. So it became his middle name.

Bullshit. You love that show, just like my wife and most soft women.

It's never too late to change a stupid fuckin name. Start calling him something close to it with two syllables. He won't know the difference. You could call him Tony in the right tone of voice and he'll lick the peanut butter off just the same.

You let your sister pick the name? A girl? I don't even think they are allowed to vote in this country. Next thing you will know she will be putting dresses on your already girly looking dog. Other dogs are going to make fun of it in the park.

People need manly dogs like labs, Siberian huskies, German sheppards etc...

Any dog under 50lbs is a cat~ Ron Swanson.

Huskies, labs and sheperds are all awesome. The shedding is insane though. I prefer mutts in the 20-30lb range. Best of both worlds. They're cheap to buy. They don't cost a ton to feed. They're easy to spoon with and can sleep in the bed. And they're easy to take places.

Anything under 10 pounds, I'm generally not a fan of.

The shedding is insane. I hired a cleaning service to come clean my place every two weeks, though, so that more or less takes care of it. I still have to sweep my living room once every three or four days and vacuum my living room rug, but other than that it's not really all that bad since everything else gets a thorough cleaning every other Thursday.

Generally speaking I just think big dogs are more fun to have around than small ones. Smallest I would go is probably a Staffybull.

Yeah, but smaller dogs can run obstacle courses around the house and have to get into a longer sprint to cover ground in the backyard. It's hysterical watching my dogs play, and they do constantly. They love each other. I love when I wake up in the morning and they've been on the ground wrestling quietly for 20 minutes. Then as soon as we wake up, they leap onto the bed and continue wrestling loudly on top of my wife and I until we take them out.

God, dogs are the best.

My dogs wrestle too. I just have to reposition the loveseat when they're done. One time I found they had slid it all the way into the kitchen under my island, which is about fifteen feet. That was pretty impressive.

Also, I toss the frisbee with my Shepherd all the time in the house. When I sit on the couch and watch TV or work on my laptop, he brings the frisbee over, I toss it into the kitchen, he runs and gets it, and then we repeat the process. Or he'll go wait in the kitchen area for me to toss it and leap up and catch it.

My larger dog is phenomenal at catching objects...treats, toys, ropes, etc. I've got a whole routine I run with the treats where I'll bounce them off the counter, behind the back, under the leg, throw her soft toys at full speed from 10 feet away, etc. She maybe drops 2/10...But I cannot for the life of me get her to give the toys back. She'll bring it back to me from time to time, but she won't give it up. I want to teach her frisbee in the spring because she'd be tremendous at it, but if she's not gonna give it back I have no clue what to do. The other problem is that she's not real bright, so catching, sitting and five are really the only things she can do. :chuckles:

He's a lab poodle mix to avoid the shedding, more lab in him than poodle. He's well over 50 lbs now, those pics were when he was 2 months old.

I completely agree. And I'm not denying I was a fan of the show. I enjoyed it early on mostly because of the character Barney and the sex it got me. I was simply saying I don't enjoy it anymore because, like many shows, it has gone horribly down hill.

That sucks. Yeah I pretty much dread the day Loki dies, as he's been around almost every day for the past five and a half years.

Was Heidi a Rott mix?

Sorry I just got back to this thread.

We don't know. My mom works at a hospital and found her in the parking lot when she got off of her shift. She brought her home (she was a little more than 1 year old).

She was a smaller Rottweiler. She was around 80 pounds when she died. So, she wasn't huge, but she was still a big girl.

Labs are overrated. There. I said it. Germans make all the best dog breeds: Boxer, Shepherd, Rottweiler, Great Dane, Weimaraner, Doberman, and of course the Pomeranian.

My Shepherd just kind of naturally knew how to fetch. I didn't have to teach him. It's kind of a breed specific thing, I think, although obviously it can be taught as well.

My Boxer never knew how to fetch. When he was young and still had his prey drive he'd chase things, but he didn't much care for bringing them back. He finally learned how to fetch when I moved to Charlotte by watching other dogs do it in the dog park. That's also how he learned to lift his leg to pee (he got neutered young, so he was always a squatter), although he only does it at the dog park, and also how to nip at heels to take down another dog while chasing it. He's a smart dog, but like most Boxers he's kind of a dick about it. He knows tricks, but outside of sit and shake he'll really only do them if he feels like it.

Eighty pounds is pretty big for a female dog, though. My German Shepherd is massive and he's only at or just under ninety and is basically full grown outside of maybe some filling out as he approaches two years.

ug. Morgan has had a bad week. Faith walked her while I was at my temp job and noticed a growth on her butt. Took her to the vet when I got back.. anal gland swollen. They lanced it and drained some of it, which cost the exact amount of money I made working that week. Gone that quick. Then, they looked at a scab I thought was from a fight from a dog and they said it may be skin cancer. Really worried. biopsy is another 200. Shes 2, cant have cancer, even if she is a boxer.. but im not going to take any risks. poor fucking dog.
