Totally wrong thread...but I got arrested tonight. I don't know why. Disorderly conduct they say. I remember nothing. Got a court date. My face is a mess. I don't know what happened. I've never done a thing wrong in my life, but looking in the mirror and seeing my face literally fucked to shit....scared the crap out of me. Looks like someone took a saw to my face

How could you not know why...didn't they give you a police report?

Yeah, it says I was intoxicated and couldn't state my address (funny, cuz I told them my address 30 times and was never breathalyzed). 4th degree misdemeanor. never done any of this shit before so I got no idea what is going on. :chuckles: I don't know whether to expect to go to fuckin jail or just pay them a fine, or what (I'm hoping the latter :chuckles: ) Never been cited before for anything not even a traffic violation. My bad for saying I was arrested, I don't know if that counts as being "arrested" ...

You're lucky, could have spent the night in the drunk tank. I'd get a lawyer, I know it's just a minor misdemeanor but since this is your first offense a lawyer could likely get them to dismiss the charges in exchange for community service. After that he can probably have the case sealed. Then you have no convictions and the record of your arrest is now sealed.

It's not a minor misdemeanor, it's a 4th degree. I think it's on my record permanently ... but I don't know yet. Ugh. I'm gonna assume I'm not going to jail even though the max sentence includes 30 days of jail, I'm probably going to pay the max fine ($250) but I don't want it on my record.

A fourth degree misdemeanor is a minor misdemeanor. EDIT: I should clarify the last statement. Technically it's one step above a minor misdemeanor, but it's still not a big deal. Disorderly conduct usually is a minor misdemeanor, it likely got elevated because the police assumed you were doing some other shit because of the condition of your face.

Again, get a lawyer. You could pay the fine, which is essentially a "conviction" or you could have a lawyer try and get the charges completely dismissed in exchange for community service. Something that's not unlikely as it's your first offense. In that case all you'd have to pay are the court costs and lawyer fees, but if you're a student you can likely just go to your school's legal services office for free. This will make getting the charges dismissed easier as well since I'm sure legal services deals with hundreds of these cases yearly.

If you get the charges dismissed you can have the arrest record sealed after 6 months, I think it's longer if you just pay the fine because technically you were convicted. Also if you get the charges dismissed you don't have to disclose it on a job application if they ask "have you ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor?" because technically you weren't. The only time you'd have to bring it up on a job application is if they ask if you were ever charged with one, which frankly doesn't come up too often.

I had a friend in college who got picked up for disorderly conduct. He went to legal services and his lawyer got all charges dropped in exchange for 10 hours of community service. 6 months later he had the record sealed.

Also I have like 8 lawyers in my family.
