The Doomsday Thread: Are you preparing?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My dad has a bunker somewhere close to their house up there in Ohio. He started building it years after my brother and I moved out, so I don't know much about it.

But that's where I'll be. Or dead. Who really knows?

All I need the world to do is hold up another 50 years or so, and I'm good.

Honestly, even if you don't want to go to the lengths that some people do because you don't fear EMPs or serious power disruptions, it doesn't hurt to have a bit of emergency backup.

If power goes out for an extended period through things you DO believe could happen like bad storms, being prepared goes a long way. Some extra water, easy to prepare food with a long shelf life, batteries/flashlights and maybe even a small generator end up going a long way to ensure that you're not one of the people raiding the store in panic when a big snowstorm is set to roll through.

It's amazing that people believe when the apocalypse occurs, the world will be complete anarchy in a hurricane, but they themselves will survive because they put some jugs of water in their basement.

If there is a global disaster, one that wipes out humanity or at least a majority, you will not survive. No amount of small-caliber bullets or beef-flavored ramen will save you from your historical fate. So stop lying to yourself that you can even prepare for this eventuality.

You can't plan for the apocalypse.

You certainley can. I've been working on my plan to assimilate into Amish culture post apocalypse for years. :D

They've got the blueprint for post apocalyptic life down pat. All I need is a map and a bulletproof vest for the journey there haha

First of all, some of you have been reading way too many Stephen King Novels. Second of all, I don't know much about EMP, so this may be a dumb comment. But if an EMP knocks out electricty in the US, I guess I'm driving as far into Canada as I can until I reach power. And third, Just In Time Inventory (JIT) was invented by the Japanesse long before Walmart came into existence.

Of course, 50 million other people won't have the same idea as you and Canada will naturally open its borders to millions upon millions of refugees...right? :chuckles:

Anyways, EMP and all that shit won't happen. But I do like Deezy's post about the human population "correcting itself" eventually. I think he's spot on and it's a topic that a lot of people have talked about. Earth can't sustain this continued growth in population so, probably not in our life time, but eventually, something will happen. As Deezy said, it either corrects itself (through natural occurrence, or through the massive wars that would be fought over resources eventually), and humankind ends up either dying out or living on with a much lower population, or our technology allows us to break through the constraints of this planet, our own biology, etc. What exactly that means, I don't know. It could mean colonization of other planets and shit (something so far beyond our own abilities right now it's hard to comprehend, if it's even possible to begin with) or immunity to disease and aging, who knows?

Good thoughts Deezy.

Earth can sustain continued population growth, the problem is economic inequality between the Global North and South and the sheer chaotic poverty of the South.

I truly do believe that something is going to happen soon, what I think it will be is a global pandemic. We're long overdue for one, it'll likely be some antibiotic resistant superbug because we overuse them everytime someone has a cold.

I read somewhere that it would cost around $40B to back up this grid, or basically help protect against this type of attack. Why the hell has our government not done anything about that? Sinking over $400B into the war in Afghanistan and other wasteless spending, yet we can't protect ourselves from our so-called "Achilles heal"? It just doesn't make sense to me..

Methinks Alex Jones doth protest too much.

I am preparing..

To party like it's 1999!!!
Again.

For a time, it can, yes. But it can't sustain an infinite number of people, that's just absurd. Earth is not an eternal resting spot for humankind, it just isn't. But for now... Colonize the oceans maybe? :chuckles: Even then, you'd have wars for diminishing resources at some point.

Did I ever say the earth could sustain "infinite" people for eternity?

Jesus fucking christ maybe you should re-read what I said, which is something entirely different.

How many people in here would be willing to blow Distractedickopoulous if it meant the salvation of humanity?
