The Golf Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looking forward to the Solheim Cup this weekend! I love watching the girls play...

Played one of my best rounds in a while yesterday. 4 birdies, 0 bogeys...and 5 doubles

I was only 1 over at the turn and I've never shot under par for a full 18, so I got a bit too aggressive on the back and I paid for it. Oh well. With the exception of a few ill-advised gambles, though, I was really playing well. Been trying to take it back slower and accelerate more smoothly on the downswing and it's worked wonders.

For old times sake, I need to go back to Akron and play at Sycamore in the valley. Used to love playing there as a kid.

Love Westfield CC too.

Dammit, this thread went down the shitter too quickly lol.

At college now, so I don't have much time to golf anymore. Did play Royal Crest for about the 20th time this year yesterday though. Played one of my worst rounds of the year lol. Had a nice shanker into a few trees, and had to punch out. I go into the trees and must have pissed some bees off that had a nest in there or something. Got stung three times on the head lol. Not only that, but I triple bogeyed on the hole. Fun times.

As far as the PGA goes, Dufner put up another solid round at the Deutshe Bank tourney, although he faded a little at the end. Stenson is on fire btw.

Played a round last weekend and the course was filled with college guys who couldn't play at all. I was walking and got stuck behind a twosome of these idiots in a cart. They were playing so slow that four other walkers caught up with me and joined me over the course of the round. So we were a 5-some of walkers, waiting on a twosome in a cart. Yeah. And then on one hole one of them hit into our fairway and decided to drive up to his ball, and park in the middle of our fairway and wait for us to tee off. I took dead aim and was pissed when I missed him :chuckles:

Anyone here have custom fitted clubs? Did they dramatically improve your game?

My clubs are getting a bit old (8 years?) and I think it's at least time to re-shaft the irons. I'm thinking I may just get a whole new set next year. I'm wondering if it's worth it to get custom fitted or not. I would probably only do the irons, as my driver is still awesome (983K) and I don't really care for the 460CC heads which are ridiculous looking, IMO. I do wish the 983 had more forgiveness, but when you hit that club solid there's really not much that goes farther.

lmao, didn't u ask to pass?

We asked, but we never really got closer than shouting distance (since we were walking, they had always teed off by the time we got to the green), and they didn't seem to understand what we were asking. It didn't matter too much to me until the fairway incident. I just played two balls until the fourth guy joined, at which point we had finally slowed down to about the same pace as them.

I have custom fitted clubs, it makes a big difference for me primarily because I'm 6'8".

However, I was very impressed by the entire process and I think it's worth doing. Seemed to me that Ping had the best club fitting for irons so I ended up with the i20's. You'd be surprised how much they can adjust your irons to fit your swing.

Driver wise, I ended up with the TaylorMade RBZ after testing the R11 because I hit the RBZ with significantly less spin. They'll help you pick your shaft and adjust the loft. If you get the R11 or SLDR I'm assuming they'd help you set the weights as well.

I think the club fitting helps a lot with the irons, but the woods you can pretty much just get stock because we all pretty much know what kind of shaft we need.

I got fitted for both because once you spent so much on the clubs all the fitting was free.

I'd recommend it, the irons for sure and the driver can't hurt to do as well if the price is right.

I'm pretty disappointed that the season is over. My last 4 rounds were 77 at Tannenhauf Golf Club, 78 at Ellsworth Meadows, 81 at Chippewa, and a 83 on Firestone's West Course. Right when i am really getting it going, and finding a groove, the season ends, let's hope i can pick up where i left off in the spring!

Yeah, I miss living in South Carolina where I could golf all year round. My swing's steadily improved over the last couple months, but the greens have gotten harder and faster in the cold weather and it's wreaking havoc on my short game. Hit 10 greens and didn't lose a single ball yesterday, but still shot 85 because I just couldn't put the ball in the hole. Frustrating.

I'm picking up my fourth Varsity letter tomorrow for golf. It really was the only high school sport that I could say that I was one of the better players on my team.

It's going to be weird next year not actually golfing for a team and just playing for fun. I'm hoping it takes some of the stress and pressure off and I can regularly break the 30s for nine holes and try to get into the high-70s and low-80s every time for 18.

Bringing this thread back to life.... I'm finally giving into one of the golf channel infomercials. It was only a matter of time.

Has anyone here tried the Medicus driver? I have as massive of a slice as you will see. I've cut it down some, and have learned to play with it. However I only get 250-260 on my drives. I know if I can straighten it out, I can drive as long as most golfers because that's one of the strengths of my game.

I've tried 1000 things to fix the slice and some might work for a week, but that's about it. I can find the Medicus club for about 80 bucks, and wanted to know if anyone's tried it or had good/bad results.

Don't have one, but I've tried one before. It will definitely slow your swing down at first and probably make you take a shorter backswing. It's pretty hard to get used to, but it can definitely help and it's pretty cool to try.

Not sure what you have tried to fix the slice, but don't worry about distance. I had a nasty slice, started going to a 3/4 swing and focusing on following theu and now have a slight draw. At the end of the day of you can average 230-240 off the tee you can score on most courses. Worry about getting it straight and not the distance
