Addressing the hole at center

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone mentioned the 2015 Draft? Depending on what picks we have come that time, there will be a lot of very good talent to fill our center void in the draft. I really like Frank Kaminsky out of Wisconsin, 7 footer with a lot of low post moves and can shoot the 3.

I would look at Turiaf as a throw in in the Love trade. All of the Centers available that would take the vet min. are pretty bad. Turiaf is also a below average back up, but I feel he is better than what is available in free agency. He knows how to play his role. He is basically a poor man's Varejao. He will rebound, hustle, and just not get in thew way. He's also a solid shot blocker. Would sadly become our best shot blocker on the team. I'd like to see him thrown in the trade if it wouldn't cost us anything significant. He is on a cheap and short contract too.

lol true desperation for a center when people are looking at turiaf. id rather see love playing the five.

he couldnt even play center for a team wanting an experienced productive center they played him at power forward instead.

Quick question, but a simple google search didn't get me anything. Did Nerlens Noel ever have a workout/medical with the Sixers pre-draft?

Yeah I considered him an option as soon as the Love rumors became serious. By no means is a great player but not the worst guy to have as a 15th man.

Assuming Okafor is really injured, there aren't any better options in FA.

Of course if we can snag someone capable by way of the Jazz contracts, I'd prefer that.

Lol, I didn't think any of you would take me seriously... I'm bored at work just killing time.

Well, reading some of the pother posts in Genpop it is just hard to tell these days. I have read some pretty obscure suggestions!

It's gotta be what the Jazz contracts are for. Since we are going after Marion this tells me we aren't taking on a wing from Minnesota. I am hopeful that this means either Dieng is on the way as well or just Love.

If no Dieng then those expirings plus a pick(s) are going to be the main ammo for another center.

I dont see marion not going to indiana.

We are limited right now by the fact that at this point in the offseason 20-24 teams actually believe like they have a shot to compete for a playoff spot or at least want to start off the season acting that way for their fanbase.

Couple that with what we will likely be offering for a center(ungauranteed contracts + a 1st rd pick) and there are really only a few realistic options on the trade market.

Denver is one of the few teams that because they have 3-4 deep at center they may be willing to deal one prior to the season while still maintaining an attempt for a playoff spot. So I do believe that Mozgov could be had due to the presence of Javale, Hickson, and their draftee Nurkic.

Beyond that you have to look to the obvious non playoff contenders(Orlando, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Lakers, Boston, Utah) From those teams the only guys I can think of that we can match up with salary wise are Henson and Sullinger. Sullinger doesn't really work as a defensive add so scratch him. Henson we've talked about and if Milwaukee is open to it, I would definitely give up picks for him.

I don't see Gobert, Vukevic, or Noel as available. Joel Anthony could probably had but there is no way you give up a draft pick to get him.

So the options seem slim at this point: Mozgov, Henson on the trade market and the usual slim pickings in FA: Okafor, Oden, Jermaine O'Neal, Stiesma.

Of course, around January, when the realities of playoff positioning set in for many teams, more options will open up. But for the offseason if we can't add Henson, Mozgov or sign O'Neal, I'd just stay pat at center, and see how Andy, Tristan, and potentially Haywood can workout at center and then re-examine things mid season.
