Does this guy have star potential?

Creative scorer with size, who can defend, shoot, dribble and assist. He has a really good iq and decision making.

What exactly does he lack that an allstar has? I mean maybe he is too nice and needs someone else like Kevin to be the alpha.

He has the tools I think. He said his goal is to be an allstar

Not in the sense of Westbrook, Durant, etc. He's not the #1 guy. He needs spacing, so having good pieces around him is key. Love coming back helped his game really show because Love provides that spacing.

But he is a guy who could be a big part of a playoff caliber team that is built right. I think the same is beginning to be true of Sexton as well. He has also grown tremendously this season - having his rough patches as rookies do. The hard work and talent is showing, though.

Finding that #1 guy to fit is essential - whether it is Zion, Barrett, or another diamond in the rough that is further back (I've heard a few pretty good evaluators swear that Culver will be the big find in the draft) - and then have to add depth through smart signings and good draft picks. The Houston pick is part of that as are any assets we get back for guys like Clarkson, Tristan, etc.

What about his post up game? Really aggressive and quick with a nice array of spins and counter moves. Love his aggessiveness and how quick he attacks from post up and how close he gets to the basket. His mindset is right on point in that regard.
I need to see more of this in the final 20 games..I never understood why they didn't exploit his mismatches earlier in the season.
I guess the coach has made it more of a point of emphasis now for Sexton to make that pass when Cedi picks his man.
Awesome stuff,,really great I love that. He will thrive as a play maker in those situations.

I think Cedi playing before Love was often the best player on the court. In the game I watched live, he covered a lot for the defensive goofs of other players, which put him out of position if D often.. He also had to initiate a lot and from something other than his optimal position.. With Love, it makes a ton if difference and frees Cedi on both ends to tend his own role.I think that is why you see a more efficient player..

I think Cedi's top end is Gordon Hayward. I would prefer to play him at the 2, or in a position less line up. We really don't have the best crew to do that right now

For anyone cracking on Jordan Clarkson I just want to point out that he had a better defensive ratings than every single Knick who played last night.

OK I admit that's a low bar.

... quite low ...

... very low ...

fuckit -- please forget I ever brought it up.

But Cedi -- DAMN he had a nice night.

Even though playing PF most of the year definitely not did not help his stats or production, I think it’s really helped him grow as a player. Didn’t see any of these moves last year or early this year but playing stronger and bigger guys all year seems to have taught him how to bully smaller guys and become really really efficient. Loving it honestly.

I don't think this is up to him, he probably get this direction from the coach and management team. It feels like they want him to grow Klay Thompson type player and they are hoping to get #1 scorer from this years draft and put all pieces together. Colin's player development is also key in that so no matter what I don't think this is up to him.

You can see him scoring effectively in national team this summer during world championship, he does not have any issue in that area.

My only criticism would be that he should prob be demanding the ball more if he can score this efficiently.

His post game has been impressive too. I know he was working on it and try to take advantage when he plays against smaller people but his spin moves and being able to finish with his left hand has improved. The fact that he can play defense, he has the ability to be like Kawhi. Very happy for Cedi and am very looking forward to him being more aggressive.

James Harden had 58 points last night, I don't see Cedi becoming that kind of a player. The late basketball coach Al McGuire, after winning the national title basically said, you need two stars surrounded by great players who know their role. That's where I see Cedi ending up, a very good player that doesn't need the spotlight.

HE doesn't have to be the #1 guy to be really damn good. It isn't a true criticism either because a guy who can be humble and pick his spots is better than 3 #1 guys who just take turns. Seeing the way he works with Love is just so nice and really show how he can shine with other very good players.

And @stowfan, I am sure he probably will never score 50 in a game, but that is pretty rare and probably requires more shots than Cedi is willing to take. I am totally ok with that.

I do think it is possible that Lebron left his Pippen for Sunny LA

As for Lebron's leaving, I'm happy with the way it is playing out. I can't imagine going back to the Lue era, veterans etc crap, having Cedi stand in the corner and Zizic on the bench. And this is without a top tier coach now. If we can luck out with the draft, get a good coach, have the healthy Love, I see a lot of potential for moving forward.

Got to say. Glad lebron is gone too. Glad the FO did not sell out all assets last year
Cedi Sexton zizic nance love Two first round picks this year. Assets still too trade. I think rebuild might be quicker than imagined

Agreed, he doesn't have to be our #1 guy, but I think he should be one of our primary ball handlers.

I have mix feelings but Griff, Lue, and LeBron really had no desire to build a team to sustain being a contender. So much wasted games and playing time especially in 2016-2018 that could have been used to develop players while the vets were disinterested and coasting.

It seems like the front office had a decent enough eye for talent that they could have built into players for the future or at least better trade assets. Lue just was unwilling to play young guys and the front office didn't mandate it at all.
