If the Browns can't get RG3 for whatever reason, would you want Matt Flynn?

I think we already have a young Matt Flynn in Colt McCoy...that being, a very good back up. I would hate to overpay for a guy who I think is just a very good backup. For me its either go get RG3 or just stay put and continue to build the foundation, I can live another year with McCoy if I must.

Doesn't matter who he did it against. Throws are throws, reads are reads, etc... and he made very nice throws and reads.

Get him, whether or not you can get RG3. Better option now and in the future.

I still haven't seen you give a definitive reason for why RG3 is apparently terrible.

Aside from trying to go against the grain on the off chance you'll be proven right in hopes to call attention to yourself...just what about this kid is telling of a future bust?

See I get the guys who say they don't want to trade up for RG3, but I don't get how you pass on him if he falls in your lap at 4. You still have yet to provide a single reason why you don't like RG3, yet you feel comfortable trusting a guy with so little film? I just don't get it.

Edit: Just saw b00bie said something similar. Also, I would rather take Blackmon at 4 than Richardson. Blech.

Aaron Rodgers on Matt Flynn:"The team that gets Matt is going to be very happy, I can promise you. They'll be getting a top-15 quarterback."

Even assuming no knowledge about Flynn, look at how he's been valued by those who know him/should be interested in him.

- Green Bay had him on a 1 year deal last year and was rumored to be shopping him, but couldn't find a partner.
- This year, rather than tag Flynn and deal him, they decided to take whatever compensatory pick they'd get instead of trying to tag and find a trade partner.
- Joe Philbin was his OC, yet the Dolphins haven't shown any interest in Flynn and have instead gone gungho for Manning.
- John Schneider, the Seahawks GM, was in the front office that drafted him. They haven't shown much interest either and have also gone after Manning.
- Flynn should fit into the Redskins offense, yet if reports are to be believed, they have no interest in him.

How on earth is a "Top 15" QB who is available for 0 pick compensation drawing next to no interest in a free agent market that includes 2 teams that should know him intimately? That, combined with the fact that we have next to no tape to watch on Flynn are some big reasons that REALLY make me wonder if Flynn is fool's gold.

And fyi, I've not once said RG3 is terrible. I just said I don't want him. As a matter of fact, I don't believe I have even said that he is bad... let alone terrible...

b00bie... whether it be baseball, football, or basketball, you always know best :(

RG3 is what this City needs, fuck everything else. Flynn ain't shit! One outburst game against a Lions weak secondary and people want him as a franchise QB? Serviceable at best. Flynn = Holcomb.

Holcomb = 450 yards against the Steelers in the playoffs. I'll take it! :chuckles:

I did read the other thread. All I saw was you say you feel like he won't be good here. No explanation as to why you feel that way. Again, just trying to understand why you think Flynn will be better when you really only have a couple of games worth of film on him.

Preseason stats don't mean much. Can't go off this.

Seriously you don't think I know that? The guy has played 1 year of college football and 2 starts in the NFL. He has so little experience we are literally grasping at straws to figure out who this guy is.

Although I agree with you for the most part, I think some of your points are a little too early to call. Specifically the Dolphins and Seahawks comments. Free Agency has not started so we have no idea how much interest either of those 2 teams have for Flynn. Frankly, we haven't heard many rumors about where Flynn will go. The only rumors I have heard are LaVar Arrington's rumors today about the Browns and Flynn and the assumption that Miami would be interested (prior to Manning being released) I can see why Miami has Manning presumably rated ahead of Flynn. Wouldn't you if you were them?

Yeah I can see it but if he's that good, I'd really expect him to be drawing more interest. If we go for Flynn, I pray that we get a contract that we can get out from under in a year or two if things go horribly wrong because the only thing worse than being a team with no QB is being a team with a mediocre QB that you're 100% committed to.

Matt Flynn is essentially what everybody hopes what Colt McCoy could have been...

I'm not a huge Flynn fan... The only positive that I can take from Flynn is that signing him means the Browns don't have to worry about getting a QB during the draft and can use their high picks on other things... Other than that, I'm not a huge fan... The thing about Flynn is that he's not a game-changing QB or franchise QB... I think he's a good QB but he's a QB that needs to a system and pieces around him to help him out... That's why GB was such a great situation because it did that for him...

I also think signing Flynn means giving him a boatload of money which I'm not behind at all..

Here's to hoping Peyton goes elsewhere besides MIA and MIA throws a boatload of money at Flynn...

Wow...it's almost as if I knew that this trade was going to happen this morning.

Greg Cossel was on KNR a few days ago and i didn't like at all what he said about Flynn....

-he basically said that you would have to manipulate the pass game and play calling for Flynn to be succesful ("like for the majority of NFL QBs who aren't top level passers") and that it's still a crapshoot with him because you're basing it on 2 NFL starts with "arguably the best QB coach in the league in Mike McCarthy"
-after the host of the show compared Flynn to McCoy ("if McCoy sat behind Rodgers for a while couldn't he basically become the exact same QB as Flynn.....") Cosell answered that he "isn't terribly off base with that comparison and that Flynn's arm is only slightly stronger"
-he also said a lot about Colt (he watched every throw Colt has made in the league) and if read a bit between the lines i think he has serious doubts whether he can be a starting QB

he also answered a few questions about RG3/Luck...

you can listen to the interview here:

This deserves a re-post..

If there's any person worth listening to talk about draft prospects or NFL players in general, it's Cosell... Especially QBs... There's no one better at evaluating players..

Unbelievable wealth of knowledge...

Just thought I'd say that...

Pressing the fastforward button on McCoy is worth whatever price it is to get Flynn.

I would prefer Campbell with Oswieler, Tannhill or Foles sitting behind him for a year or 2.

If we trot out Colt, Seneca and whomever else as our Qbs going into Next year everyone needs to be fired.
