The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Martin released a sample from World of Ice and Fire. Haven't read it yet, but anyone who's watched the show has heard about Aegon the Conqueror and his dragon Balerion the Black Dread.

Wanna know how big Dany's dragons may get? Here's an illustration from the book.

No. :chuckles:

That's not even a dick comment. Dude even has a summary page that took me 45 minutes to read. That was the abridged version.

The fuck? Yeah....not gonna bother.

Yea, the website is novel length. I've spent about an hour and a half on there and haven't read 1/4 of it.

Love this!

I watched a youtube video chronicling the lore of Westeros, a prequel of sorts for the books. It was narrated by actors from the show - Tywin, Bran, Catelyn, Robert and Viserys. They mentioned a lot from Aegon's conquest of Westeros and you just know his dragons were terrible and majestic. Loved the story of the Field of Fire and the King who knelt.

If they would like to wait until Martin finishes the last book then it wouldn't hurt to create a mini-series about the age of heroes, the Andals, Aegon etc. Maybe showing a bit when Rhaegar took Lyanna (fast forward of course). Spartacus did the same thing while waiting for Andy Whitfield to recover from lymphoma.

They would love to do a prequel, the problem is keeping the actors hitched to the show while they went back and did a prequel. This is going to be a hot topic for the foreseeable future, unless TWOW suddenly releases early next year or something. Even then...it's likely the show catches up.

There's also loose plans for a Dunk and Egg series later on. Would be cool to then jump 120 years ahead after those stories are told and tell the story of Roberts Rebellion

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

There's no way the show will do a prequel season due to the actors' contracts. Actors can be signed to a seven season contract, and after that deals need to be re-negotiated, which generally means a lot more money. Plus none of the kids are getting any younger.

It's definitely possible that, once the show is finished, HBO might do another series based on the world and the lore, though. They know it's popular and a money-maker at this point.

I believe most of the contracts have a length of six seasons. At that point there will be a lot of renegotiation anyways and they may be able to sign actors to contracts that don't start for a year or two. The show will also become MUCH more expensive for HBO for the last season or two. I can imagine a lot of the actors will be praying that they don't get killed off in TWOW so they don't miss out on their big season 7 payday.

I still think the movie idea is the best for the finale of the series. HBO owns the film rights so although they may need to partner with another studio to actually produce and distribute it, it seems feasible and just as much of a money maker for them. Plus that way the actors are negotiating a 3 picture deal rather than a 10 episode deal. Might be just as economical to do the movie.

Some talk about Euron earlier and I saw an interesting theory the other day I hadn't thought of.

He mentions that he's captured some Warlocks, and Martin has said before that Pyat Pree will be back again. So the theory basically goes that Euron is merely a puppet of the Warlocks. What do we think?

That's not hard, negotiate the prequel sperately. Tell them we'd love to do it, but it's gotta be at the right cost.

That's not what he means. The prequel wouldn't be any of the same actors. The idea would be to put the current show on hiatus during prequel production.

The problem Chris is talking about is that you can't keep 40 actors on hold and under contract for a year or two without making a show. They would all want, and need, the right to go out and keep working elsewhere, and suddenly Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington get offers as leads in other shows, and suddenly you have to recast Danaerys and Jon Snow.

Yeah I see it now, Spartacus really was a collection of coincidences that allowed them to do a prequel. The prequel still had most of the major characters. The movie idea is fantastic I suppose, but I'm afraid some details might get buried and we get less of the show in the end. The problem with a great show like this is that you don't want it to end, you want more if possible, there's just too many stories to tell.

I would imagine they'd do it just like all the other blockbuster movies these days, split into three 3-hour movies. Pretty close to a full season then

Shoot all three simultaneously ala LOTR and Avatar, helps minimize the ageing process and we have something to look forward to every Christmas. I'm in dammit. :chuckles:
