The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Holy eff, that might've been the best episode this show has ever had. Brilliant performances. Not a single wasted scene.

Only thing I was leery about was Jamie's weird assault on Cersei. That wasn't in the books right?

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Tywin clearly the star of this episode.

Ep sucked.

Nope, just being bitter since I haven't watched it yet.

Download almost done though, so....

Only part of the episode I didn't care for was the scenes involving Sam. But rest was great.

Shit's done, suck mah dick, see you guys in an hour.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Good ep. I liked it.

Jaime/Cersei played out pretty similarly in ASOS as far as I remember. They fucked in front of Joffrey's dead body and Cersei was extremely reluctant at first.

Ending was pretty good, but people on Facebook kind of hyped it up. I know Daario vs the Meereenese champion played out how it did in the book (except Daario was Strong Belwas, of course, who has sadly been cut from the show) in that the guy got owned pretty quickly, but I would have liked to see a short fight scene. I guess the fight choreographers plan on blowing their load later in the season for a certain fight scene.

Guess I totally blanked on that Jamie Cersei scene from the book.

But yeah, that was my first thought as soon as the Mereen champion came out. "I wish Strong Belwas was here to take a dump in front of their gates." :chuckles:

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

I would have chimed in last night, but I was sick most of the weekend and popped some Nyquil at 7:00. I barely made it through the episode. :chuckles:

Great ep, though. This has got to be the strongest start to any of the four seasons of the show by a wide margin. Just so much shit happening everywhere. Tywin had a ton of fantastic scenes last night, and I loved see him immediately take command after Joffrey's death. His scene with Tommen in the sept was perfect, too. He totally manipulated the poor kid.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Tywin's scene with Tommen in the sept was brilliant. You see throughout the course of the scene not only how much more pliable, yet effective of a king that Tommen could be, but also the jedi mind tricks that Tywin is capable of. The look on Cersie's face when she realizes that hours after her son's death Tywin is already pulling the strings of her other son and pulling him away from her, even to the extent of giving him the birds & the bees talk. Just a GREAT scene on several different levels.

Also, at least in the books it is expressed that Cersie actually liked it "Oh yes Jamie, Now, do it" was something along the lines of what she said in the book after initially saying "not here, not here." Seemed like downright rape in the show. Just when Jamie was actually getting some redeemable qualities for show watchers...

Oh, and Tyrion with Pod. :bigcry:

Sam totally could have had that fat pink mast if he played his cards right. Wonder what will happen to Gilly
when the wildlings come a knockin at Mole's town. Also, the way that kid stared at Ygritte, could he play the role of Satin in shooting arrows with Jon when the attack from the South occurs and be the one who kills Ygritte? He seems too young but who knows.

All I know is that I'm fairly certain Gilly
does not die. The actress spoke about filming an episode that takes place entirely at the Wall this year, and that can only be episode nine. Apparently she escapes the massacre at Mole's Town.

Benioff and Weiss have made some curious adaptation choices in the series, but one thing they've nailed almost every single time is dialogue scenes between non POV characters. I can hardly think of a single one that went wrong, and that Tywin scene showed a brilliant understanding of his character and Cersei's. All of Olenna's non-book scenes have been perfect as well. These guys really get his characters.

That's good. They need her and her baby to show
Jon being a heartless bastard as a Lord Commander. "Kill the Boy, let the man be born." Plus the whole Sam going to Oldtown thing.

I'm not sure what they're going to do about that story, as on the show we have not established that
Mance has a wife or a child. I don't believe anyone has been cast for that role this season either. I guess she could pop up next season, or maybe they'll just cut out the whole "grieving Gilly" angle (I mean, it was really annoying in the books) and just have her bring her own kid on the journey.
