The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Those wildfire jars gotta fit under the category of Chekhov's gun. Jamie said there was enough to destroy the city, certainly enough to make the throne room look like it did in the aforementioned vision from Bran/Dany.

Actually, it does look a lot like snow, but what caused the roof/sides of the palace to be blown apart?

Now it actually kind of looks like ash.

I bet it is ambiguous on purpose.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

It's part of the time period and story. Just because you're uncomfortable with it in today's society doesn't mean they were.

Look at the Roman empire...

I think you misinterpreted my quote. I am not uncomfortable with it at all. Game of Thrones is a television show, and on a television show, particularly a drama, scenes should serve a purpose. Some of the sex scenes on the show absolutely do serve a purpose, and similarly it's reasonable to have scenes at a brothel where there are naked women around. That's true to the fictional period the show takes place during. The books have plenty of sex scenes, but most of them have a reason for existing, which is not true on the show.

Let's look at a few different scenes to demonstrate my point.

1. Jon sleeps with Ygritte. This scene has a purpose. Jon breaks his vows and learns what it means to love someone. This is an important character moment for him. Nothing wrong with it.

2. Pod gets taken to the whorehouse. While it provided a funny "Meereenese knot" joke, what purpose did this scene serve? In my mind, it just wasted about five minutes of time that could have been better spent on something that actually mattered. It was just generally a terrible scene.

3. Dany gets raped by Khal Drogo. Like the Jon and Ygritte scene above, this is an important character moment for Dany. It's her at her lowest, stripped down and at the whims of the barbarian she doesn't know and was forced to wed. Another fine scene, even if it's a little more rapey than its book counterpart.

4. Littlefinger reveals his master plan as two whores fuck each other. Like, seriously, this might be the most laughably bad scene in the show's four year run. It's just an awful scene with poor writing and Littlefinger might as well be twirling his damn mustache the entire fucking time.

Great television shows shouldn't have scenes like two and four above. They lower the quality of the show. Similarly, if your fans come up with the term "sexposition" to describe how you relate plot information to the viewer, you're probably doing something wrong.

I totally agree.

Theon railing the shit out of Ros and Theon banging the chick with the ugly teeth on the boat were equally bad "sexposition" scenes. They provided exposition but...I don't think it had to be in that form. It was put in there to have some tits and ass, nothing more.

This episode is nuts.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

So, as a book reader I offer zero insight. A shit ton of deviations from the book, and that last scene, obviously we've never seen that one before. Wooo I'm pumped. Love getting shit like that.

IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE EPISODE, DO NOT READ DOWN!!

But I mean, from the word go that was different. Sam doesn't tell Jon about Bran. There is no Locke. Bran and company don't get captured. Oh man, always gets me excited when they do this. Knowing that they know the story already, they deviate with a purpose beyond just making it easier for TV.

Yeah, it was nice to get a confirmation of what they did with the babies.

No idea what the fuck is happening at Craster's Keep. I guess they needed some shit to make Bran's storyline actually interesting for once, and apparently also some filler stuff to keep things interesting in the middle of the season while we wait for Tyrion's trial. Seems like they were a little hamstrung by the way the timeline forces certain events to wait until the last episode.

I feel like mad shits gonna go down at Tyrion's trial. Can't wait.

Honestly, I'm so looking forward to
Tyrion's trial by combat, the battle at the Wall, and Tywin's death
that I dont give a fuck about anything leading up to all that.

Also interesting that Jon knows that Bran is alive on the show. I wonder if they'll end up meeting up next week, and if so what will happen with Locke.

I was watching this and just thinking wtf the whole time. In a good way I mean. So much was different. I love getting more insight because D&D know what happens, they can drop hints and make changes.

I'm wondering if that Other at the end was supposed to be the Great Other. He definitely looked different from the one who brought the baby. There also seemed to be at least a dozen more Others standing in a line with him, although the shot was (intentionally) blurry. It was really cool to get our first glimpse of the Land of Always Winter.

Yeah I don't mind the deviation of
Bran and co. at Crasters.
Gotta do something to fill the time with him.
