The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Small actions have really huge consequences all the time in this series.

Cat effectively demolished the Riverlands by kidnapping Tyrion in the first book. It's likely that thousands will die come winter as a result of all those burned fields and pillaging.

Robb sending Theon as his envoy to Balon was the reason he ended up losing his war. Without that stupid decision, Winterfell is never taken, his brothers are never presumed dead, he (probably) never ends up marrying Jeyne Westerling and keeps the Freys as his allies, Roose Bolton never has any cause to betray him, etc.

There are plenty of other examples too, but Martin is big on the butterfly effect.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

So I just noticed something while talking a to a friend of mine about the possibility of the Night’s King being The Great Other. The only person we really hear talk about The Great Other is Mel, and she refuses to say his name. Coincidentally the Night’s King had his name struck from all books, and no one says/knows it anymore.

These are really the only two characters who have a taboo associated with speaking their name, so that could certainly be a clue that they are one in the same.

My whole thing with the Great Other is this: If Melisandre thinks he's the enemy, he's probably not. If he's even real. It's hard to say at this point with her visions and her belief system.

Looks like someone may actually have let slip a major spoiler. Confirms what others here already caught, but now national media picking up on it.

HBO Accidentally Released A Major 'Game of Thrones' Spoiler

Spoilers are coming!

In a epic faux pas heard around the Internet, HBO may have accidentally spoiled the "Game of Thrones" books, revealing the future of the George R.R. Martin fantasy series.

After Sunday's, April 27, episode of "GoT," HBO's official episode synopsis identified the crowned White Walker that appears at the end of episode as the "Night's King," which is totally fine except there is no Night's King! (At least, not yet ... )

The Night's King is a character that is speculated about in Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels, the inspiration for HBO's "GoT," but he doesn't actually exist in the series yet outside of the characters' bedtime stories.

HBO replaced the “Night’s King” reference in the synopsis with “a Walker,” but not before a savvy Reddit user took a screen shot (see below), according to Yahoo Celebrity Canada.

Currently, Martin has released only five books in the fantasy series. If HBO has revealed the existence of a Night's King who is making an army out of babies, it is a major spoiler for the remaining unreleased books and super bad news for whatever White Walker is on diaper duty.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

That article could be wrong, though. As I mentioned above somewhere, the admins on the westeros.org forums mentioned that the production staff does not write the summaries on HBO's website. This means that it could have just been a simple error from a book reader who drew their own conclusion.

And really, I don't consider the Others having a leader to be a major spoiler. I assumed they would, as they're clearly not mindless. We still know nothing about him, or if he's the same Night's King from Old Nan's stories (and this particular story I don't think was been told on the show anyway), or even if he's the Night's King at all.

As far as I am concerned, spoilers spoil events. For example, telling someone that Cat and Robb die in the Red Wedding is a spoiler. Telling someone there's a character called the Tattered Prince coming in future seasons (and for the record, he'll probably be cut from the show...I just happened to be reading a chapter he was in last night) is not a spoiler because it reveals approximately nothing. Now, if I told you what the Tattered Prince does, that would be a spoiler. And obviously there's an exception for characters that are thought dead that turn out to be alive, like

GUYS! I just figured something out!!!

Jon just became buds with a guy named Locke.

John Locke was a character on a show that took place on an island with a smoke monster.

R'hllor is a fire god.

Fire creates smoke.

The island on Lost is surrounded by salt water.

Azor Ahai is born amidst salt and smoke.

JON SNOW IS AZOR AHAI CONFIRMED!

Yeah, she has a tendency to be really wrong about things.

That said, in her POV chapter she never seemed to be anything other than genuine. She truly does believe in what she's doing and that she is fighting for the greater good. It's certainly possible that she's being deceived, though.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

I'd say the show gave us more insight than anything. That season 3 moment when she talks to Thoros and Beric. She's shocked Thoros can do what he does and she's stunned to heard Beric talk about there not being a life beyond this one. She believes there is.

It would seem to me her beliefs are different from Thoros, so either she's being deceived or Thoros is.
