The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Non book reader here. Will we be seeing Benji any time soon?

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Benjen?

No

Sorry with so many characters I sometimes get confused. I actually meant Gendry and what about Osha/the little Stark boy that's not Bran?

I guess I'll post this as a spoiler, but
no, we book readers haven't seen him since you last did. I mean he'll eventually be back, but we don't know when.

We actually have seen Gendry since he last disappeared on the show. He was at the
inn at the crossroads when Brienne fights with Biter and the fake Hound.
I have no idea if he'll be back on the show, though. They may do that scene differently, although I do think it will happen this season.

As far as Rickon and Osha go, no, neither is a POV character in the book, so we haven't seen them since they split off with Bran (who is a POV character). Someone is going to look for him in the next book that isn't out yet, though, so he'll presumably reappear.

Yea I was talking about Rickon.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Speaking of Benjen, I'm rereading ACoK and one part I totally forgot about (which is different from the show) is that it's Jon that finds the cache of Dragonglass weapons at the Fist, not Sam, after Ghost leads him to them. More importantly, they are found under a recently buried pile of loose dirt and wrapped in a Night's Watch cloak.

What's the general belief here? Did Benjen bury them? Coldhands?
The CotF
? Seems like that's a pretty important detail that just flat out got snipped from the show. Leads me to believe maybe it was Coldhands.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

I'm inclined to believe that it's going down that road and I would absolutely love it. So many options if the COTF are working with the Others, but the two in the forefront to me:

1. Bran becomes the anti-hero to Westeros and uses the Others/WeirwoodNet to wreak havoc.
2. Bran gains all of this power and plays a large role in dismantling the Others by turning on the COTF.

Or 3), Bran uses the fact that he has a foot in both the CotF/Other and human "camps", to broker a treaty/truce/agreement that ends the war. I'm in agreement with whomever said above that there was some truce that ended the Long Night, and that it has somehow been broken.

I'm leaning this way. Notice all the stories about the fabled heroes that ended the long night never actually are fully told. You aren't told how Azor Ahai supposedly defeats the Others. Old Nan is interrupted before she can finish the story about the Last Hero, and that's on purpose.

So the Night's King, Azor Azai, and the last hero are all the same guy.... Just depends on your perspective.

And maybe Bran will be the modern incarnation of all three, and brings peace that way.

I don't see how you put the Night's King in there too. Do you mean to say that the Night's King is like the Azor Ahai of the WW?

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Speaking of Benjen, isn't it kind of assumed that he's Coldhands? Did that theory get quashed?

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Interesting comment from GRRM on his blog.

He responded to this:
Speaking of TV show and book readers, you got any comments on The Night's King incident or THAT scene in last episode. I don't know if you have any power over producers but please, do not let THEM spoil the books, while everyone is so focused on us readers spoiling TV viewers."

With this:
If something happens on the show before it happens in the book, I suppose one could call that a spoiler.

If something happens on the show, but happens very differently in the books, is that still a spoiler?

If something happens on the show, but never happens in books, what precisely was spoiled?

And how many children did Scarlett O'Hara have, anyway?

The fuck does that mean.

Seriously, GRRM is losing it.

Since it's not really relevant and the show isn't using this character, can you explain the Coldhands character?
