The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Sansa didn't even tell Cercei on the show. They cut that out, presumably because Sansa was already annoying enough in the first season and they didn't want the fans to pile on even more hatred. I doubt many people hate Sansa now, though. Her story has finally started to get interesting, and slapping the shit out of Sweetrobin certainly can't hurt her street cred.

And in the books, I never really hated her. I was more ambivalent. She was just kind of a boring character, and most of her chapters weren't nearly as eventful as those of other, more interesting characters. I refer to this as "Brienne Syndrome," wherein you don't necessarily hate the chapter and it can have some interesting information, but you'd really rather be reading about Jaime, Arya, or Tyrion.

Once she got to the Eyrie, though, I thought her chapters got considerably more interesting. Obviously I don't want to spoil anything, but I loved her chapters in Feast, few though they were. Although, really, that was more because Littlefinger took such an active role more than anything.

Pyro deserves a ban hammer for that shit.

Zero tolerance.

Wow. Easy on Sansa, there. I'll never get the Sansa hate at all.

People need to have some perspective. Totally agree with Sophie, actually. Notice how everybody loves Arya? She's "badass," a "tomboy!" etc. It only makes sense to have her beautiful sister be a more feminine (normal) teenage girl. What's the hate all about? Because she can be annoying sometimes early on in the story? I'll be honest, I find Arya very annoying sometimes, too, for a variety of reasons. She is just as naive as Sansa in some ways, until later on. But she's "cool" in that she has a sword (!!) and kills a few people.

I think the people that vehemently hate Sansa are incredibly short-sighted.

I have no problem with the Sansa the character. I don't think the actress is very good though.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

The actress is great. Was voted the next Jennifer Lawrence by TVGuide.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

I think she's a good actress too. Not in the top 3 on the show but that isn't saying anything in a show full of amazing talent.

As a non book reader... *hint: don't comment, dummy ;)...it would be beyond poetic if Sansa ends up sitting on the throne.

Seeing as there are still two books to go, we know about as much about that as you do. :chuckles:

Woah, how insightful of you, because that is exactly....

How the fuck would I know if that happens or not? I'm not George RR Martin.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

I'm not even sure Martin knows what the hell is going to happen at this point.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

People are usually a little harsh towards Sansa imo. I mean her biggest mistake is telling the queen that Ned was planning on leaving.

Sansa isn't evil or nasty. She's just....bleh. But what's annoying are the folks who put her up on a pedestal as something awesome. So the point is -- what about her is admirable?

Her biggest mistake was telling Cersei. But there was also all the other snotty/petty things she did in AGOT, including refusing to tell the truth about what happened with Joffrey and Arya that resulted in Mycah being butchered. The books are pretty consistent in that she constantly seems to be thinking almost exclusively of herself, even after much of her family was murdered. Dreaming of Sandor, etc. Really made me want to puke. And she's absolutely thrilled at the prospect of marrying Loras, fantasizing about how great her life will be even after hearing about the murder of her brother and mother. And not even giving a shit about her little sister, who most people assumed was likely dead.

To say she is still a spoiled stupid twit after feast I think isn't giving her enough credit. Its kind of ignoring her entire story arc which was being cast as bastard, like her half brother Jon snow. I loved the parts where she starts identifying with him more In her mind and realizing how she treated him. If that isn't a sign of maturation then I'm not sure what is. Yeah, compared to the rest of westeros she may be considered spoiled, but she was essentially a prisoner for like a year and a half and was tormented by Joffrey during that time.

Hey, I'll give you that she is somewhat less annoying by the time AFFC and the latter part of ASOS rolls around. But "not as big a spoiled twit" isn't exactly the kind of admirable quality that generally makes one root for someone as a "hero", which is what that one writer advocates. Objectively, I think it's fair to say that as of where the books are now, she is a slightly spoiled and self-centered teenage girl. Okay....so how is that heroic in any legitimate sense?

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Wow. Easy on Sansa, there. I'll never get the Sansa hate at all.

It started with the stuff she did in AGOT that didn't go so well for Ned. But honestly, I don't think that would have lasted except for those who latched onto her -- and the alleged romance with Sandor -- as being the centerpoint of the books. And yes, those people exist.

People need to have some perspective. Totally agree with Sophie, actually. Notice how everybody loves Arya? She's "badass," a "tomboy!" etc. It only makes sense to have her beautiful sister be a more feminine (normal) teenage girl. What's the hate all about? But Sophie's explanation doesn't explain why people don't have as negative a reaction towards Catelyn -- who is also feminine -- or Margaery. She's completely overlooking all stupid things Sansa did -- telling Cersei about Ned's plans, etc. -- and the other annoying shit she did. There are people dying all over the place, including members of her own family, and she's still daydreaming about the Jonquil/Florian children's story. Then she's fantasizing about Sandor, and wanting more lemoncakes, and not really thinking of anyone but herself. That doesn't make her evil, but to pretend that those substantive characteristics have nothing to do with why so many readers don't like her is ignoring how her character was actually portrayed in the books.

I think the people that vehemently hate Sansa are incredibly short-sighted.

Don't hate Sansa. Hate the "SanSan" shippers and their ilk.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Margaery and Catelyn are both relatively feminine, but they "play the game" so to speak. We also get no Margaery POVs so there's that.

BTW a lot of people hate Catelyn for a variety of reasons. I'm one of the people that is not fond of her, at all. She does a lot of stupid things, and it's less acceptable because she's a grown ass woman who has been around a long time. Kidnapping Tyrion is just the height of stupidity.

Pretty neat how she went from getting her throat slit to paying for a code to hack Military drones #magic

So what you're saying is if someone killed your spouse and then took two of your children and you had the opportunity to kidnap their imp son, you wouldn't do it?
