The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

I really hope the writers make the whole Dorne topic more interesting than it was in the books. Although there weren't all that many of them, it seemed like every other chapter was another tedious Arianne story. Ugh.

The casting I really want to hear about his Wyman Manderly. His "the North Remembers" speech is one of my favorite, and I imagine they'll build it up even more in the show.

How would that even make sense. You mean he'd be doing all the things Quentyn does? Doesn't jive.

Either he does what Quentyn does (unlikely) or he simply takes the place as sole male heir and gets all of Arianne's ire. Someone mentioned that he might take the place of Arianne (Doran's only heir) which would be unfortunate.

Some missing characters that may have already been cast: Euron, Victarion, Maderly, Arianne, Connington and Aegon.
Tyrion
has to travel with someone right?

I think we have to re-label the thread with a spoiler warning at the very least before we completely disregard the black bars.

I think everything will be more exciting on screen by nature. I just look at Oberyn's arc and how they condensed his whole character into about 10 minutes of screen time (not that he had any filler). Doubt anything drags like in the books.

I think you need a mod to do that.

Whatever.

But Oberyn was actually involved in some major, interesting plot points. The trial, the dual, etc.. I honestly can't remember anything that happened in Dorne that would be of interest even if condensed. We'd have fewer complaints about gout, less crap about Arianne, fewer internal musings by Areo Hoteh, and a bit less of the ridiculously-named "Darkstar". And still...almost nothing happened.

Well I think the plot to crown Myrcella was interesting, along with the aftermath. Granted that could only make for one or two episodes max. Obara is apparently fighting a show regular. Another episode of Doran and Arianne plotting. The season likely ends with the Sand Snakes given their roles (or maybe happens mid way through). The show doesn't spend too much time anywhere so I think it'll be interesting enough to last a season before all of the characters are strewn about Westeros and joing the other arcs.

Not to mention, a trio of vengeful Viper daughters is compelling all on its own and will have a built in fan base from the jump after this season ends.

Well. there is a rather amateurish "plot" to crown her that fails miserably, and doesn't affect anyone outside Dorne. And the vengeful viper daughters really do nothing except talk. Kind of like Meereen, except worse. But, maybe the writers can come up with something to make the stuff in Dorne actually matter.

I hope so, at least.

So am I right in that this is the spoiler thread? This is the one I like to read, although reading of a certain death blew... Oh well

I don’t know how to spoiler tag.

Well I mean you get the awful Darkstar thing from that failed plot. But I'm banking that whole story goes just about no where important.

He is of the night.

I don’t know how to spoiler tag.

To spoiler tag you do brackets [ ] and put the word spoiler between them, when you are done with the part you want to cover with the spoiler tag, you do another pair of brackets but with a "/" before the word spoiler.

Like this: [spoilers] Text [/spoilers] except remove the "s" at the end of spoilers so it spells only spoiler

Darkstar (toss up with Penny as worst character in the books) will likely get cut. The plot if done correctly could add drama to the arc, with the reveal being that Doran was plotting against the Lannisters the whole time, which can shift pretty seamlessly into the King's Landing plot. I just think you're underestimating the value of some pretty interesting characters. Brienne and Pod would be boring as hell if they let it drag like AFFC. As it is they show up in the show every few episodes and make for a relatively entertaining sub plot. We trust that their adventure will lead to something. Even the Viper hasn't done much until the last episode other than bring up Elia a few times, talk about vengeance and stab a Lannister soldier in episode 1. Yet he's already a show fan favorite before we even get to the trial... all due to the actor's screen presence and relatively strong dialogue. I just have faith that the show runners will turn the Dorne world expansion into good television. Otherwise they wouldn't have included them.

What is so ridiculous about Darkstar?

Am confused.

The fact that his name is Darkstar, and he says stuff like "I am of the night" is a good start.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Yea, that's a really terrible character there.
