Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

His name isn't Darkstar though...it's just his nickname, ala the Hound, the Viper, the Mountain, and a million other characters. :chuckles:

Still not sure, am I missing something?

He's just this contrived character that is cheesily mysterious. Arianne just talks about how he's this really handsome guy but it's clear that she's not seriously interested in him. Oberyn didn't trust him, yet he's hanging around. Doesn't seem particularly interesting to any of the other characters, yet he's hanging around. The queen making plot goes wrong and Darkstar slashes at Myrcella for no particular reason. Also, he's supposed to be this incredible killer yet he effs up an assassination attempt on this little girl. Then he just leaves and goes God knows where. If he ends up being important I'll eat my words but I think GRRM just wanted to introduce another Dayne to the story.

I've always thought that Darkstar was the one who informed Doran about the plot to crown Myrcella, and that he wounded but didn't kill her on Doran's orders. I assume we'll find out for sure in the next book, but it's really the only thing that makes sense. All the other people in on that plot seemed to be in love with Arianne, and what better way to remove suspicion of being an informant than to attempt to kill Myrcella?

This will also conveniently allow Doran to remove another member of the Kingsguard in the next book when they go looking for Darkstar.

I'm also interested in why Doran calls Darkstar the most dangerous man in Dorne. That didn't seem like a throwaway line to me.

That very well maybe the case but I still think it's a stretch in terms of plausibility (from a writing standpoint). To plan out that he's going to hurt her but not kill her and anticipate the exact situation seems a bit much. maybe we need more info, but I don't see the purpose and motivation from Darkstar's perspective.

Maybe he's Euron/Daario?!

So what I really want to know is who Obara will be fighting next season. It says a series regular character. Does that mean a main cast member or just someone who has been on the show regularly?

I just don't know who could plausibly end up in Dorne next year to fight her.

Doran would have to be insane to think anyone could swing a sword at a little girls face and be certain of only causing a superficial wound. Way too much of a chance of something a lot more serious.

My guess is that it is because he has a more or less independent power base, is unscrupulous, and completely unpredictable. That's what makes him dangerous to me, although Doran may have something much more specific in mind.

ETA:

Hey, on those casting leaks, I'm kind of concerned that there is no listing for Wyman Manderly, who is an extremely important character and probably offers one of the best scenes in ADWD. Given how he makes his appearance relatively early in ADWD, and it runs concurrently with AFFC, I'm hoping this isn't a sign they've pushed him back another season.

I'd be much more concerned about no Victarion. The fuck?

They said that may not have been a complete casting list, and that some roles may have already been cast.

For example, I can't imagine them casting the entirety of Dorne and leaving out Arianne. She has probably already been cast, or just wasn't on that particular call sheet.

She better be hot.

I'm going to guess and say they dropped him. Didn't show Daario just capture 93 ships? I think that's the same size as Victarion's fleet. His book purpose I think was to provide Daenerys a way to Westeros. Looks like she has it already on the show.

Kind of disappointing if that's really the only purpose Victarion was to serve. Ugh.

As long as they get her nipple right, GRR didnt spend 4 lines writing about their gigantic size for them just to be ignored

I just hope they don't drop Euron. He was one of my favorite characters in his limited appearances. Also, I feel like that dragonbinder horn is going to be important.

Plus, I think Euron's character would translate well to T.V. which would actually give the viewers something interesting to watch in regards to the Iron Born.
