The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So I managed to avoid watching this show and spoilers until August. I plowed through a few episodes a week until last night, and I'm finally caught up. The past two seasons had some jaw dropping battle scenes. Looking forward to April.

I'm figuring out when my re-watch starts leading up to the final season debut.

I think it is going to be tonight.

And now my re-watch begins.

I’m listening to the audio book of F&B, and it’s honestly very entertaining.

There are plenty of spoilers and theories to look up online, but it’s fun to try and spot them on your own.

Lot of hints and clues of where Dany’s dragon eggs came from, what’s west of Westeros, the effects of (probably) going to Valyria (which is horrifying btw) and more, and I’m only up to King Jahaerys I.

I'm working off site for the next month and have to commute, so I signed up for an Audible free trial and made Fire & Blood my first book. Figure that's the best way to burn through a book there is zero chance I'd make it through otherwise.

I’ve got a 45min commute each way to work. Audible has been a lifesaver.

Thought I'd listened to a ton of the book on the way in to work today and I am on chapter 9 out of 197.

So I'm about a third of the way through Fire & Blood after four days of listening.

Perhaps the most interesting bit so far was the story of Arya Targaryen. She stole away on Balerion the Black Dread and disappeared for something like a year. No one knows for sure where she went, but the dragon returned her to King's Landing on the verge of death, being cooked alive from the inside with something writhing within her.

The septon who tended to her speculated that the dragon took her to Valyria. When they put her in an ice bath, he wrote that the things inside of her emerged, serpents with faces, serpents with hands, a slithering mass of them. The creatures died when exposed to the freezing water.

They also noted that Balerion was clearly wounded in several spots, including a nine foot long gash on his side that was still dripping with his steaming blood.

Makes you wonder just what the fuck is in Valyria. Really hope one of the remaining books takes us there, provided Martin ever actually writes them.

I went to the liquor store earlier today and found something wonderful.

I like that they said too that it was so unspeakable and terrifying that Septon Barth (I think that's who wrote it), and the Maester never told anyone what happened, not even her parents. Just said she died from sickness / wounds. It wasn't until after Septon Barth died that they found a private account of what happened that he wrote.

Valyria is.... dude..... I dunno....

Did you ever read that perhaps Game of Thrones was a Sci fi and not fantasy and that Valyria could have some kind of Super tech that is really at the heart of all the magic? Euron clearly has some powers from there.

Sounds like genetic manipulation to me.

Martin has written sci-fi before so that wouldn't necessarily surprise me. Abercrombie did something similar in Shattered Sea.

I had the Shattered Sea twist revealed for me like halfway through by accident, but I still thought it was great.

The Valyria theory though seems kinda odd.

Yeah, I don't personally think it will turn out to be technology. Just saying I wouldn't really be surprised if it were sci-fi given Martin's roots.

I read a couple of interesting theories today, like that Jon is actually the son of Lyanna and one of the Stark brothers, and that the return of the purity of the Stark line resurrected the idea of the Kings of Winter, and thus brought the Others back.

So many interesting ideas out there. The show seems to dispute the one above, but maybe not.
