The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Harry Strickland is the most basic Game of Thrones name I can think of. Dude sounds like a 7th inning setup guy for the Giants, not a major commander in Game of Thrones.

It is definitely Harry Strickland, as he has been confirmed to have been cast as the leader of the Golden Company and the actor looks exactly like the guy we see on the ship in the trailer that looks kinda like Jaime.

But like I said, he's probably a character mash up with some Connington in him.

Ok, So I'm starting to think it is the Golden Company attacking Winterfell in all of the battle shots.

Why? Because the trailer absolutely refuses to show a wight or white walker in the battle. All of the combatants are purposefully hidden and obscured. And what would be the need to do that, unless the combatants are unexpected to the audience?

Everyone expects it to be the ARmy of the Dead. Not the Golden Company.

Moreover, why is ARya fighting with a spear? She has a damn Valyrian Steel Dagger if she's fighting wights and white walkers?

Cersei really would be the dumbest dumb bitch of all time if she sent them North.

Not sure I think it's the Golden Company attacking Winterfell, but it is curious that it appears to be Night King-less with no sign of any of the dragons.

Here's the thing. They show you the dead horse at the very end. So then, why not show, clearly, a single wight dying during that battle? Why obscure it?

I'm fairly convinced now lol.

Another thought: What if the Night King wants them to chase him just to kill the dragon and leave Winterfell defenseless?

AFterall, does he really WANT the dragon now? He used it for its purpose, but if he burns people..he can't raise them.......

Although I will say it is not beyond them to just edit the dragons out of the trailer to make people wonder.

Thing I'm most looking forward to and will be extremely pissed I don't get: Learning what the fuck Varys heard in the flames and who spoke.

He's gonna die this season. Obviously. He's gonna do something shady to most likely deserve it. Obviously.

But please finish that story arc and tell me the secret. Please.

I think an old face will pop-up with the Golden Company. As a surprise.

Suspects:

The Blackfish
Stannis the Mannis
Syrio Farel
Ser Pounce the Great
latest

Who is the commander of the Golden Company in the books?

On the show, I presume the Second Sons were already used...were they Stannis' mercenaries that deserted after the BBQ?

I'd love for Syrio to be involved somehow and be alive and maybe be at odds with Arya that would be interesting.

Did the blackfish die in the books? He escaped then too or not? I can't remember?

Really testing my book memory since I'm so deep in a show rewatch AND book re-read, but I believe the Blackfish escaped Riverrun with Jeyne Westerling when Jamie came to take the castle and hasn't been seen since.

You always think things like that will come back. I mean it is hard to believe a BA fighter like the Blackfish would just go live a quiet life somewhere, but there is always that Russian guy in the Sopranos who escaped Pauly and Nephew whats his name in the woods in the winter and was never heard from again

Cersei really would be the dumbest dumb bitch of all time if she sent them North.

So a thought I had is this...what if the Night King attacks King's Landing with his dragon? No one there would have any reason to believe it was the Others attacking, and he'd presumably do it at night in the dark and snow, so it'd be damn near impossible to get a clean look at the rider.

In the panic, Cercei loses the baby and, in her rage, she decides to say fuck it and send her forces to Winterfell to attack.

I'm so intrigued by what Furdik said.

Bran makes the most sense. I don't know WHY he wants Bran, but he obviously has a thing for Bran. He wanted the Children of the Forest dead. He wanted Bloodraven dead. It makes sense he wants Bran dead now too. And Bran has always been heralded as "The One." Bloodraven and Leaf both tell him that they've been waiting, specifically, for him. Jojen essentially tells him the same thing. That he's special.

I do think we are in store for some sorta time loop thing as the 3rd holy shit moment.

Kinvara is my secret wish, though that seems somewhat unlikely considering her minor role thus far.

Baby Sam also makes some sense. Although...he wouldn't want Baby Sam dead.

Is it pretty much assumed one of the major twists of the entire series will involve a time loop, conveniently set up by Hodor in S6?

Can’t for the life of me think of what exactly, but no way that’s the last we see of such a shocking revelation of Bran’s powers.

I’m probably setting myself up for disappointment because I really want some extremely surprising twists and turns that change how we look at this entire story even. But what I’m expecting is a fairly run of the mill good vs evil fantasy finale, with some sad character deaths and great moments but nothing revelatory. We were already told the origin of the white walkers by that one bitch, and my god was it underwhelming.

We shall see.

That is supported too by when they go to the Tower of Joy, and young Ned realizes someone is there watching him.

Yea. Happens in the books more too.

But, honestly, something major is going to happen. There's NO WAY the whole setup for all of that was for Hodor. And I think money is on Bran being the thing the Night King wants to get.

I was wondering why he wanted to kill the children and BLoodraven. Well....to stop them from getting to Bran first.
