The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've been listening to the first book on tape during my commute since Friday and two things stuck out early.

1. It's really weird listening to an elderly British man narrate sex scenes.

2. Ned and Robert have this big debate over who will be the Warden of the East and I'm pretty sure this never becomes important again. :chuckle:

Like they spent pages debating this and it is not even remotely important ever again.

So imo the odds are decent that the Targaryens have been having dreams about the Long NIght for some time. The Dreamer, first, getting her family out of Valyria with her dreams before the doom. Then various Targaryens who believed they could survive fire. Only one seemed to have been right. Rhaegar who believed something or other about some prophecy or another.

I just want to see a fucking ice spider. They've been hyping them up. If we don't see at least one, I'm gonna be disappointed.

And you best believe they better be big as hounds, or i'm uninstalling HBO Go.

The old british voice isn't even the worst part. It's the pronunciation.

"P'Tire Baelish"
"Bri-eeen"
"Vaylar Mar-gull-iss"

He also calls Joffrey Jeffrey every now and then. Not every time, but just enough to wonder if he's fucking with you.

So my original plan was to space out re-watching all the seasons so it timed up with the Season 8 premiere. That didn't work. I went through those fuckers way too quickly.

The question now is: Do I watch them again?

Game of Thrones re-watch...

The cut in to when Joffrey says, "And as soon as you've had your blood I'll put a son in you" is amazing. The kid who plays Joffrey is an incredible actor. He just makes you want to punch him in the fucking face every time he speaks.

He gave up acting too I think.

So its almost time: everyones best guess as to what the symbols and circles and glyphs all mean? The way the walkers organize bodies and the paintings and such?

Well, they don't do it in the books as far as I recall, so I'm guessing no meaning.

Sooo....why do the Walkers let homeboy go in episode 1?

There's a rabbit hole to think about. Just how far in the future can they/he possibly see?

Cause they do similar things in the books. Tormund says they never attacked his wildings in force. Like they wanted the wildings to cross.

Well, in the books they don't let the guy go. At least, not that we know of. The POV in the books gets killed. We're left to assume the older guy gets away, doesn't return to the Night's Watch (because fuck that shit), and then later gets executed.

But I do agree they clearly have a plan. The show obviously hints at that with them clearly maneuvering Jon into a situation where he needs to be rescued by dragons, which they then kill and steal one of. And then use to take down the wall. I have to assume that something similar will happen in the book, because the show is basically the Cliff Notes version of the books since about halfway through season four. The main beats are there but they make up most of the rest.
