So Long, Mo Gotti Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I remember when the Mo/Delonte backcourt was tearing it up, kind of small but unconventional and just enough to throw other teams off.

Mo is exactly the kind of signing we needed. It allows Delly to simply play 10 minutes of super-hustle and not need to be hospitalized in the process. It also gives us a legit 2nd ball handler after Kyrie. Sure Lebron can do it, but its better if not.

Mo Williams signature shots to me were when he'd sprint down the center of the court and stop all momentum for the pull up 3.

Another one in the same style, Mo-mentum heading down center court, stops at the FT line and pulls up.

Followed by Austin Carr predictably saying "If they're gonna give you the foul line shot, dot their eyes baby."

If you've watched Mo much over the last three seasons, he's actually gotten better at getting the ball to guys where they are comfortable.

When JR Smith come on board, we were all fairly relieved that the Cavs had a guard who could actually get the ball down to Love in his spots when he had a favorable matchup pinned on his back.

Mo gives this team that little bit of extra ability as well. I think he's going to fit very well with the likes of Love and JR - guys who become a ton more effective when they receive the ball in the ways that they prefer.

Mo makes our offense that much better/more versatile. I expect our offense to break efficiency records next year.

Mo shot a little over 41% on catch-and-shoot 3 pointers last year, basically identical to JR Smith and Delly but worse than Kyrie (46%). You have to think he'll be a little more open on the Cavs then he was on Minny/Charlotte though.

I do think that his creative abilities, beyond just shooting, will be very big for us on our bench squad though. Less important if we can turn Kevin Love into more of a facilitator from the elbow, but still a very big change in what we can do when two or three of the big 3 are sitting.
In order for Love to be effective as a facilitator from the elbow someone has to get him the ball.
Mo.
Once the team sees the Mo/Love combo working Lebron and Irving will be more comfortable getting him the ball there just like with AV.

plus Love will be more adapt at when to stay out and when to cut in as he gets used to his offensive role.

Thats why Mo and lebron worked out so well the first time. Mo could get Lebron the ball in spacing around the paint and it was harder for teams to shut it down. If nothing was there Lebron could kick it out and reset the play and run leiso.

In the playoffs teams could key in on mo and stagante the offense by forcing leiso and shutting down the passing lanes. similiar to what GS ended up doing. This team has more options though.

to sum it up. Mo doesnt become less important with Love as a facilitator. as that would be a secondary function for Love with his primary function to score.

I think we will see that "showtime" offense that people were expecting last season

If you goto NBAwowy you can see where Irving , lebron and Love Helped everyone else play efficient basketball. Mo is a guy who helps others play more effcient. Just look at the guy at Hornets.

Mo Willaims Off
Pace 91.7
Points per play 1.001
Points per shot .983
TS 49.2
Assist 56.4%
Mo Williams on
Pace 93.7
Points per Play 1.044
Points per Shot 1.024
TS 51.2
Assist 58%

Thats a clear improvement in efficiency for the Hornets when Mo was on the court. Having a guy who can create efficient opportunities for your three best scorers is huge
Lebron Complained all season about not being able to play efficient basketball( at least to lebron standards) The addition of Mo helps both Lebron and Love look for theirs instead of looking for others and forcing up shots they dont necessarily want to take.

Interesting. But we will not be able to play Mo and Kyrie together very much for defensive reasons, so Mo probably won't get that many minutes. Maybe 20 MPG max?

I no longer consider Irving a defensive liability,
48 minutes per position
1. Irving 32 minutes/ Mo Williams 12, Delly 4 Minutes
2. Shumpert 24 minutes Jr Smith 16 minutes Mo/Delly 8
3. Lebron 32 minutes, Smith 8, Player to be named 8 minutes
4. Love 32 minutes/ Thompson 16
5. Mozgov 24 minutes /Thompson 8 / AV 8

That would be my Ideal minutes distribution for the regular season.

That looks like a pretty realistic breakdown of minutes. Your "player to be named" for 8 mins may explain why Griffin is having so much trouble, it seems, landing a backup SF.

If Dorell Wright doesnt goto Miami which i think became less likely to happen since Heat grabbed Green. He will be a solid option there. Hopefully the Cavs can turn the haywood contract into something better. but ill be happy with Wright

I still can't get over the fact that we tried to win a finals with no backup bigs... and the only adjustment was Mike Miller...simply baffling...

What's being missed here is Delly can drink his halftime coffee again.

WIN!!!

This was a really good signing both for the court and for championship karma. Mo didn't deliver as a second option in his first stint here, but he played with his heart on his sleeve and gave us everything he had not only during those two playoff runs, but in the following season before we traded him, basically, in a now ironic fashion, for Kyrie Irving.

Good basketball fit and good basketball god karma. Honestly, we probably would have won the finals with Mo because all we needed was 2 big scoring nights from one other guy to swing that series.

Mo Williams was much better as a starter than off the bench. Indeed his bench numbers make Delly look like a star. (and believe it or not his Defense gets worse, the less he plays....)

I am worried people are expecting Lou Williams (28), not Mo Williams (32)

here's the relevant info:

He was playing on the Twolves and Bobcats bro, don't put so much stock in those stats. Have you seen the bench players for those 2 teams? On this team he's always going to be playing with one of the big 3 plus JR, TT, Delly and Andy. Our bench is so much better than the bench of Bobcats/Twolves
