Lets face it, having a couple legitimate players on the bench has been the difference since the trade. Speights is a legit 3rd big, Ellington is a great floor stretcher and has decent handles, Shaun Livingston is also showing that he can be a serviceable pg off the bench going forward.

My question and thought process going forward (assuming no trades are made) is one of, how much does giving a guy like Livingston a chance for signing him going forward? If Speights really wants to stay here, will $6M a year be a reasonable offer going forward? CJ Miles is what he is but do we hold on to him or pick up his contract as a 5th G?

    What are you thoughts?

Ellington is the only guy under contract. Speights can probably get 8 million this off season, and Livingston could see 4 million.

There's is no way and I mean no way Shaun Livingston gets $4M unless he wins the Powerball lottery.

The reality is that most of the bench won't be here by the summer of 2014. They'll wind up getting renounced to attain cap space.

Or if it's a one year contract the Cavs use to hit the salary floor.

I like most of these guys...but I wouldn't give Livingston more than 2mil a year.

As for Speights, I don't think I'd give him much more than the MLE...unfortunately he will probably want more than that.

Couldn't give much of a fuck about Miles, I'd offer him the vet minimum.

I would give Miles a million to play for someone else.

This actually made me laugh; however, I'd actually do that too. Dude contributed to the greater good though.

Very true. I think it's very safe to say that all of the players that are not currently under conrtact for 2014-15 won't be renewed into 2014 unless they accept a non-guaranteed contract like Gee.

I think it's also pretty safe to say that even some of the players that are under contract will be gone too.

Outside of Kyrie, Tristan, Zeller and Waiters, everyone else is either an expiring contract or a trading chip.

Miles is out because he is the only vet on the team not teaching the young guys how to play the right way. If anything he is teaching how to play like Dion 3 months ago.

Shaun will take the vet min or slightly more if he takes some unguaranteed money. I'd like Mareese to pick up his option, so that they can get a better idea if he could be a long term fit. I don't think that will happen. I am pretty sure he will be traded.

Ellington I would like to keep because he seems like a sturdier Boobie who is 4 in taller. I like his D especially, and he is a better ball-handler/passer than I expected. He fits long-term unless they take another wing who can contribut right away in the draft.

    Any news on Selby?

Livingston and Ellington are guys I'd like to keep around for a while.

Ellington is everything Daniel Gibson wanted to be. That is, he's bigger and can guard the two. Gibson always struggled with being too small to be a good 2 guard but not a good enough ball-handler or court general to effectively run the back-up point. So he's been played as an undersized back-up two who can shoot and defend. Well, problem solved. We now have a correctly sized back-up 2 that can shoot and defend.

As for Livingston, he's the best passer on the team. He plays hard on defense and doesn't mind playing multiple positions. He's going to be cheap. I don't see why we'd let him walk.

The whole point of this thread was to avoid this discussion that is going on in every other single thread.

I would like to keep Speights, but a team could either use him as an expiring, a playoff big, or plan on resigning him. If you cant get anything of value out of him or resign him for the MLE, then let him walk. Odds are we will have TT, Andy, Zeller, and hopefully a rookie C. Not enough minutes to go around.

Ellington is pretty solid, but he too may command more than what we are willing to pay him in the offseason.

So who else kind of wants to bring Luke Walton back after this season?

    There. I said it.

As long as he had a no interview clause in his contract Im not against it for the vet min, the ball is constantly moving when hes on the floor, cant hate that.

Walton-Livingston-Speights-Ellington was actually a pretty awesome lineup last night.

I think those guys are really enjoying playing together. It's really nice having a non-dleague bench of vets.

I like having a bench. Some continuity would be nice from season to season, so I wouldn't mind seeing some of them stick around; but mostly I hope we fill out our roster with some guys who can actually contribute something. It's not asking much.

I've always liked Livingston and Speights so I would really like to see them stick around as 7-8th guys if we can get them for a good price. Was never a big Walton fan (had that respectful hate for Bill too until he became a comedic anouncer and then I liked the guy), but it looks like I might turn the tables on Luke too the way he is presenting himself. Didn't know much about Ellington, but like what he brings more than my man Boobs. Much more fun to watch lately...
