We’ve raised some questions in the last couple of days about whether the Browns really needed to give three draft picks to the Vikings in order to move up from fourth overall to third overall and draft running back Trent Richardson. Browns President Mike Holmgren says the Browns had to do it, but if the Buccaneers weren’t seriously interested in trading up for Richardson, the reality is that the Browns might have been able to get him by staying put and keeping those three picks they gave the Vikings.

But Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman told the Pioneer Press that if the Vikings didn’t trade down with the Browns, they might have traded down with some other team that wanted Richardson.

“We did have offers on the table, I can tell you that. I’m not going to tell you who or what. But I will say Cleveland did the right thing,” Spielman said. “We definitely would have looked at some of the other options.”

Spielman probably wouldn’t say so if the reality is that he fleeced the Browns, getting their fourth-, fifth- and seventh-round picks when he would have stayed put and drafted Matt Kalil third overall if the Browns hadn’t moved up. But he is saying he’s satisfied with the move.

“I think both teams benefited from that trade. Cleveland got a very unique running back, and it’s very important for their offense – and I think we were able to accomplish what we wanted.”

What we know for sure is that the Vikings got a great deal: They got three extra picks, and then they got the player they would have drafted if they had stayed at No. 3 in Kalil.

It's surprising to see anyone upset with the Browns giving up three late-round picks to move up for Richardson. I will admit that when I first saw the news that the Browns had traded three picks to move up one spot, I got nervous. But when I saw it was a fourth, fifth and seventh I was relieved. That isn't a bad deal at all.

The other thing no article mentions is that we had a massive supply of picks this year. We had thirteen picks heading into the draft -- that's nearly two per round! We had the picks to move up, and only surrendered Day 3 picks in order to do so. I have absolutely no problem with this move.

And then we traded down to get some more picks and still got the guy we wanted in the third round. That's not a smart move at all by us though, instead ESPN questions why we drafted the guy, despite stories that others wanted him around where we got him.

I'd draft Luck as a back-up but that's it. No effing way I'd waste my 4th-5th round QB pick on a rookie, no matter how hyped up he was. Cam Newton wasn't even drafted in my league.

I would think that is a bargain. I fully expect Trent to play close to Hillis' 2010 level, which would make him worthy of a second-round pick. Our line was terrible last year, and that has been addressed. Our passing game had no teeth at all, and I expect it to improve. For the sake of our fantasy teams, let's hope the hype on Richardson stays low.

30th. So taking "The best RB prospect since AP" didn't do shit to us, which is fine.

And Jigo, about the 4-5th round pick, I was talking about Trent Richardson. No way I am touching Luck this year, maybe if he's there 2nd-to-last round before the Kicker.
