I refuse to believe that quarry lake thing is that close to Atlanta.

I'm starting to like the dude with the crossbow. He isn't taking shit from anyone and he wasn't afraid to cap someone in da ass...

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I hate to say this, but...I thought this episode was kinda weak.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

The subplots are really starting to deviate from the comic.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

It's really hard for me to watch this show after Boardwalk Empire which comes on an hour before this program. The production value, acting and writing are all top notch. By far the best show on television.

It's not that it's horrible but in the beginning it had a movie type quality feel to it and now you it's going into TV show mode which kind of bums out a little bit. I can see myself maybe giving it some more time but I don't know for how long.

Walking Dead Writing Staff Let Go
The Walking Dead has gotten terrific ratings for AMC and a quick renewal, as it heads into its season finale this weekend. But now comes word of a curious overhaul behind the scenes.

Deadline is reporting that executive producer Frank Darabont has let go of the show's entire writing staff, including his number 2, Charles H. Eglee (Dexter, The Shield). As Deadline notes, many shows have some writer changes in-between seasons, but it's unusual for such a major overhaul.

In addition, Deadline says they hear Darabont wants to go forward into Season 2 without a set writing staff, instead assigning all scripts he doesn't write himself to freelancers. Deadline points out that Darabont fully wrote two episodes of the first season (and co-wrote or re-wrote the others) and that two of the others were written by non-staff writers, including Walking Dead comic book creator Robert Kirkman. They also note that Darabont would be using the same model employed by Torchwood, which has several writers working on episodes for the upcoming re-launch on Starz (including Buffy's Jane Espenson), but no full time writing staff.

One hurdle for Darabont to do this however may come in the form of the Writer's Guild. Torchwood -- which just added another Buffy alum, Kelly Manners, as a producer -- is coproduced by the BBC, who got the okay from the Writer's Guild to continue with their UK template.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

The subplots are really starting to deviate from the comic.

I'm actually very happy about this. I read the first 30ish issues after I watched the pilot, and I started to regret it. Don't get me wrong - the comics were great (and I'm not really a comic reader), but there were certain elements/events that I would have preferred not knowing about before watching the show. So I'm glad the show isn't being strictly loyal to the comic.

Comics and TV are two very different mediums. Darabont should use the TV medium to to it's fullest potential - and not limit himself solely for the basis of being loyal to the comics. And conversely, certain elements are better utilized in comics that don't translate well to film. I know some die-hard fans of the comic may be displeased about the significantly different plot lines and character developments (although I've heard from many that they are excited about the deviations to keep them surprised), but the majority of viewers have never read a single page of the comic. Darabont's responsibility is to the viewer of the TV show. Not to the small, although devoted, fans of the comic.

This isn't a Lord of the Rings situation where the purpose is to represent as well as possible and do justice to the greatness/importance of the books. I have no problems whatsoever in Darabont taking artistic license over the TV series.

(For an example of significant deviation: ***SPOILER FOR EPISODE 5***
Up to the point I read in the comics, there was no mention of the CDC or an encounter with the scientist positioned there. I assume this is a new storyline developed solely for the TV series. )

I don't want to wait for a second season to start :(

can they just start it next week?

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I really didnt like the finale. It left more questions than answers, and not in a good way. I dont really like how the whole episode played out. I wish they talked more about the virus, and how rampant it is.

I thought the first few episodes were wonderful. 4 and 5 were alright, the finale was weak. I've read the comics up to 75, so I really don't get why they're destroying the plot so much. And on top of that, it's seemingly turning into more drama and boring conversation than action/horror. Now, the comic seems to pride itself on character development, but seriously... Episodes 5-6, nothing really happened of importance. For such a short season, I figured they'd try to make more happen. Maybe my opinion is warped because I've been reading the comics for a while.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

***SPOILERS****

I have a really good guess on what the scientist whispered to Rick as he was leaving. He took everyone's blood test, so my guess is that he saw that Andrea had contracted a new strain of the virus or something to that effect. Or maybe she's just a carrier of the virus, like they did in 28 days/weeks later.

Why Andrea? There were a couple of clues in the episode. First, after she took the blood test she seemed very weak, which isn't much by itself. But later, after the dinner she was throwing up in the bathroom. Maybe she could have been puking because she was drunk, but i think those two were put in for a reason.
