The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Been a while since I've played TF2, but Valve just released an incredible short film based on it:

Selling Battlefield 4 and Dead Rising 3. Fun games but I don't really play them now. I'd rather have the money.

That leaves me with just Titanfall for my Xbone and honestly that game is about as meh as they come. Online shooters are just ugh these days. Nothing recaptures the glory days of Day of Defeat/Counterstrike or Unreal Tournament, Tribes, and all the other classics. It's just worn out. Somebody needs to reinvent that shit. Titanfall was a valiant effort but it just feels way too generic, bare bones, and just uninteresting.

Not sure what to get on my Xbone now. I still have like 200 bucks in Xbone cash. Might just save it for the Fall when the games start to drop and just spend a few on MGSV Ground Zeroes. Haven't played that yet.

... Unreal Tournament ...

Thanked for this guy. One of my all time favorite games; loved the custom modding people could do along with the crazy levels. Great, great fun.

Unreal Tournament 2004 was one of my favorite online shooters in college. So fucking fast-paced, great vehicles, an amazing game mode in Onslaught...just all around an incredible game. It was like Halo 2, only it didn't feel like your character was running a sea of caramel and people blew up when you shot them with a rocket. Oh, and with much cooler weapons and vehicles. My favorite was that hovering one with blades in the front that chopped off a dude's head when you ran him down.

Oh yeah, I had good times. I remember I was just a little kid when Unreal Tournament came out, I played the demo or whatever over and over. :chuckles: So badass.

Yeah, the original Unreal Tournament was awesome too. I used to play that one map with the three skyscrapers and low gravity all the fucking time. I just thought that 2k4 basically perfected the formula by adding new game modes (like Onslaught) and vehicles (to some maps). You still got the original old school Unreal Tournament if you wanted it, but you could also enjoy a more modern experience with vehicles and command points. It was the best of both worlds. Onslaught remains my favorite non-TF2 game mode.

Duuurd, that's the map I remember playing.

Maybe it's just nostalgia but all these online shooters blow these days. I'm sure I'll buy the new CoD like a sheep though.

I don't think it's just nostalgia. Most shooters now are military-based like CoD and Battlefield, which means they are dull with lots of brown and grey color palates. Halo is colorful, but slow as fuck. There's not much on the market that is both as polished as UT was back in the day or as colorful and fast. That's why I mostly stick with Team Fortress 2. It satisfies my old school gaming style needs while also providing fast-paced gameplay (unless you play as a Heavy, which I don't), bright colors, and glorious ridiculous hyper-violence. Not many games can pull that off any more.

Still to this day I think tribes 1 and 2 are the greatest online shooters of all time. I use to play that shit in middle school on a 28k modem, had a solid clan and did ladder matches, good memories. ;)

It was amazing. Some of the mods were off the hook. Remember firing the disc launcher like a machine gun? :chuckles:

Listen, I am going to save you the money for MGS GZ. Do not buy it. I am not a MGS fan, I bought it, and I beat it in 45 minutes. That was including cut scenes man. It just has no replay value what so ever, and it is short as fuck. Not even worth 14.99. Hell I would argue I have gotten more value out of purchasing avatars on psn for 99 cents, than you would out of GZ.

The only reason I bought that was there was nothing else to play, and I instantly regret it...

I started playing Rocksmith a few days ago and switched to Rocksmith 2014. Holy shit it is awesome, it is seriously revolutionary.

Ive had a guitar since i was in 6th grade (grad school now) and couldnt ever practice for more than 20 minutes without getting frustrated and quitting. I can play Rocksmith 2014 until my fingers give out (havent gotten the callouses yet), i've played for 2-3 hours a day and it is just plain fun

I should add that guitar hero honestly helps a lot if you were previously a GH junkie. It really helps with rhythm and stretching your pinkey finger out

I just can't pick a game right now. Tried replaying Mass Effect, tried going through Batman Arkham City, tried Dark Souls, I'm just all over the place. Nothing is grabbing me at the moment.

Picked up Mass Effect 3, started playing last night. I was shocked to find out my character didn't import but the game plays alright so far.

I went through this phase about a two years ago. Nothing on my plate, the next cod zombies wasn't until November, so I kept buying bargain bin games to play. I played a lot of games, some real winners like Beowulf... Anyways I got to Heavenly Sword. Never played it before, didn't even know it existed. I loved that game. It was a cheesy mess, but it was fantastic.

Long story short it got me back into gaming after a bit of a sad period. I want a Heavenly Sword 2.
