The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I installed Bloodborne on PS4 (was a monthly free game) and played that for an hour the other night. You guys are insane... it was so difficult and the opposite of fun. I'm embarrassed to admit how far I got. And I grew up on games with no margin for error.

I'm getting into this new MK 11 next.

Eh, it’s not for everyone. That being said, there’s a pretty great feeling of achievement when you finally get past an area that’s been holding you back, or finally beat a boss that you’ve been stuck on for days. It’s a game that’s absurdly difficult but never really feels unfair.

Man, you’re like the third person I’ve heard that from recently and it just blows my mind. I am... not good at games. And admittedly Bloodborne was very challenging to start. The first area is a crucible.

An hour or two in it began to click, everything slowed down, I picked up on the nuances and from there it’s one of my favorite games ever. Don’t get me wrong, almost broke my controller on the third boss (and numerous other times, lol). But even that was only like 7-8 tries to beat. Again, I’d never claim to be ‘good’ at games.

Really not sure why the first area turns so many people off, but if you got past it and put the effort in I think you’d love it... but I will admit it isn’t for everyone. Nothing is.

Couple things.

You're right, it's probably just me needing to learn the system and get into the swing of things... but for that hour, the overwhelming feeling was that I was missing something and didn't understand it. There's the beginning where you're in the dream place or whatever... I'm just trying to understand the game play and download information, but then the menus and items were confusing. Felt totally overwhelmed. I died once and didn't know if I should start back up where I died or go back to the other place and do something there? I remember hearing that you lose things after death but couldn't figure out what that was.

I'm not blaming the game for this, it's more likely that I'm just not used to the genre, but the controls felt wonky. I get to that big guy with the axe, and I could not for the life of me stay clear of his attacks. I move back but not far enough, I try to go to the side and get caught on some box and can't get away. Feels like I kept getting caught on the environment. I get hit once and I'm almost dead. Should I use a spell? What spells do I have? What do they do? And do I even have time to cast one? I dunno, just felt like there was too much going on. Maybe I return to it at some point after studying a Wiki or something. Too many people enjoy this for it to be as bad as it felt.

How does it compare difficulty-wise to Dark Souls? That's my favorite game ever. Well, after the Half-Life series, anyway....

Love Half-Life. Really hope we’ll see a third at some point in our lives.

Difficulty-wise this might be the toughest game From Software has ever put out. It’s also a completely different play style - whereas Dark Souls is about slow, methodical combat, Sekiro is much faster paced and rewards quick reaction times and aggression while still punishing you for being greedy. Sekiro also has a very vertical play style - you can grapple up to roof tops and silently kill enemies, you can get a jump on most of the mini-bosses, and in general stealth is highly encouraged. I spent a good portion of the game crouched and reconning an area before I would go in for the kill.

But again, it’s got that trademark difficulty, the kind where you acknowledge it’s hard as hell but it’s fair and you keep coming back for one more try.

No, these comments actually makes sense. The games are very esoteric. I learned that the hard way. I’d be more than happy to answer any questions you have if you want to message me, or you could just do the research yourself if you’d rather, but that is one thing about the game and the other souls games, that kind of makes it in accessible to many people in my opinion. Quite frankly, not a lot is explained and it’s up to you to just figure it out.

Where did you get Bloodborne at for free? I can't find it anywhere. I'd love to play it.

Unfortunately I don't think it's free anymore. It was one of PS4's two free monthly games back in either January or February.

Anyone play Marvel Strike Force?

I’ve never really been into mobile games but this game has me hooked. It’s really good. It’s free and pay to win but I’m still having a good time without paying...things just take a little longer.

The latest version of the popular game is highlighted by the addition of the new Face of the Franchise: QB1 mode. Players will create a quarterback and start by playing in the College Football Playoff. That's followed by the NFL Scouting Combine, the draft and an NFL career.

Well, definitely getting Madden this year.
